Quick Overview
Job Description
Senior Electrical Engineer - Isolation & Power Integrity
Location: Onsite-Berkeley, CA (can be remote during contract duration, then relocate when converted)
Duration: Contract-to-hire
Mission / About the Role
They are hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer to own electrical isolation and power distribution across 600VAC, 2kV DC, and 50V DC systems. The role focuses on system-level power distribution, isolation strategy, power budgeting, and ampacity analysis for complex BESS systems-not PCB design. You'll work closely with the Staff EE, design owner, compliance, hardware, and test teams.
Top 3 Qualifications / Responsibilities
- Design 600V+ 3-phase and split-phase AC power distribution systems.
- Define clearance, creepage, and dielectric isolation requirements across HVAC, HVDC, and LVDC systems.Define clearance, creepage, and dielectric isolation requirements across HVAC, HVDC, and LVDC systems.
- Design isolation barriers compliant with UL508A, IEC 60664-1, or equivalent.
Key Responsibilities
- Define isolation requirements for components/materials across 50 VDC, 600 V AC, and 2 kV DC domains.
- Design custom isolation barriers and define isolation test criteria.
- Ensure isolation architecture meets UL508A and is captured in DFMEA.
- Perform ampacity, load, power budget, and phase-balance analysis for 600V AC systems.
- Identify worst-case loading and recommend load balancing/load-shedding.
- Size protection and feeder conductors and coordinate with panel designers.
- Lead design reviews and communicate technical decisions cross-functionally.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- 8+ years in high-power electrical systems or panel design.
- Proficiency with EPLAN or equivalent electrical CAD tools.
- Experience with HV AC/DC isolation, clearance, creepage, and dielectric coordination.
- Strong knowledge of UL508A / IEC 61439.
- Hands-on experience with 600V 3-phase/split-phase distribution, ampacity, phase balancing, and NEC protection coordination.
- Experience with high-power/high-voltage power conversion devices.
- High-voltage, safety-critical environment experience.
- Strong problem-solving and cross-functional communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- DFMEA experience for high-voltage electrical systems.
- EV, battery, or energy storage experience, especially 10kV+ DC systems.
- Control panel design experience.
