Job Description

Operation Engineer , AWS Managed Services

Job ID: Amazon Web Services Australia Pty Ltd

Amazon's technology business has a history and tradition of leading the world in web-related technologies and services. With Amazon Web Services (AWS), you have the chance to help individuals and businesses take their computing infrastructures and applications into "the Cloud". As a member of the AWS Support team you will be at the forefront of cloud technologies and interact with the full breadth of AWS services.

AWS Managed Services is designed to accelerate cloud adoption; it simplifies deployment, migration, and management using automation and machine learning, backed by a dedicated team of Amazon employees. It provides ongoing management of the AWS infrastructure, automating common activities such as change requests, monitoring, patch management, security, and backup services, and offering full lifecycle services to provision, run, and support your infrastructure.

We are looking for Operations Engineers to join our Managed Services team based in Sydney. This is an opportunity to join a world class team that is at the forefront of enhancing customers' cloud support experience.

Let's talk about you. How competent are you in OS and networking skills? Do you have expertise in troubleshooting? Are you familiar with every corner of the OS, performance bottlenecks, and how to monitor infra resources at scale? Do you know how to make the absolute best use of every byte of RAM, every CPU cycle? Are you obsessed with ensuring boxes run with 99.999% uptime and keep servers defended with the best security and auditing tools?

Key job responsibilities
  • Operate the Managed Service platform and collaborate with internal service teams to meet customers' individual needs for infrastructure and application deployments.
  • Troubleshoot application deployments, recreate customer issues, and build proof of concept applications. Apply advanced troubleshooting techniques to provide unique solutions for customers' needs.
  • Work on critical, highly complex customer problems that span multiple AWS services.
  • Help build and maintain CloudFormation templates, and scripts to automate and deploy AWS resources and configuration changes.
  • Collaborate and help build utilities and tools for internal use that enable you and fellow AWS Engineers to operate safely at high speed and wide scale.
  • Leverage day to day experiences to provide the voice of the customer to internal AWS teams.
  • Drive customer communication during critical events.
  • Learn and leverage AI technologies.
  • Provide operations in a 24/7/365 environment; Operations Engineers are required to work flexible shift hours.
Basic Qualifications
  • Experience in AWS services.
  • Bachelor's degree, or 4+ years of relevant technical position experience.
  • Experience in system administration and troubleshooting any operating system (Linux and/or Windows) and networking (HTTP/s, TCP/IP, DNS, OSI model, routing, switching, firewalls, LAN/WAN, traceroute, iperf, dig, CURL or related).
  • Knowledge of networking protocols such as HTTP, DNS and TCP/IP.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in cloud computing technologies.
  • Experience designing, building, refactoring or operating large scale, impactful IT systems - either on premises or in the cloud.
  • Experience in automation through DevOps scripting (e.g., shell, Python, Ruby, PowerShell).
  • Experience in database administration and strong troubleshooting skills (tuning and optimization, deadlocks, schema design) with relational database engines (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server).
  • Experience in oral and written communication.
  • AWS or other cloud certification.
  • Experience setting up, maintaining and coordinating automated patch and configuration management of production servers.
  • Experience with SSM to manage resource health, automate deployment, and maintain Linux and Windows servers.
  • Experience in AI tooling for troubleshooting.
