Job Description HII Mission Technologies is seeking a Communications Engineer to support the Presidential and Executive Airlift Directorate, SAOC, Mission Systems Branch (WVSM). This is a part-time, project-based role requiring up to 25 hours per week. This role involves applying theoretical and practical knowledge of hardware and software engineering to review, prepare, and analyze system documentation, configure files, and provide engineering resolution support.
Essential Job Responsibilities Systems Analysis & Design: Determine operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, and requirements. Design, develop, integrate, and test embedded software for Command and Control subsystems, and analyze their integration into weapon system solutions.
Agile Software Development: Work as a key member of an agile software development team. Elaborate high-level feature descriptions into detailed technical designs, perform coding tasks for features and tests, and execute scripting tasks for software build, packaging, and deployment. Perform peer design and code reviews.
Documentation: Document and demonstrate solutions by developing flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, and clear code comments. Perform Quality Assurance to ensure developed product meets quality standards. Open Systems Architecture (OSA): Participate in the review, analysis, and assess contractor implementations of OSA/systems, derived requirements specifications, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), source code, and design implementations.
Comms and Cryptographic Hardware: Provide technical expertise to oversee and audit the design, development, integration, and testing of tactical communications and cryptographic hardware. Ensure secure data transmission and compliance with military communication standards, COMSEC protocols, and NSA cryptographic requirements.
Integration & Mentorship: Serve as a sound voice on behalf of WVSM. Provide technical advice on the effects of software on LRU and highly integrated computer system architectures. Ensure software systems pass data seamlessly throughout datalinks and database locations. Minimum Qualifications
- 15 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 13 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 10 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 19 years relevant experience.
- Systems & Acquisition Expertise:Program acquisition experience in relevant command and control DoD systems and navigational databases. Experience designing, building, implementing, and testing Open Systems Architecture (OSA) systems. Deep knowledge of Digital Aeronautical Flight Information File (DAFIF) format, ARINC 424 navigational database format, and how aeronautical data translates into aircraft flight paths.
- Evaluation & Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication on highly technical topics. Demonstrated critical thinking, ability to review technical documentation, and proactive team collaboration.
- TS/SCI required to start Physical Requirements May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
