Job Description

Assistant Project Manager (Geotechnical Background) Salary: £33,000 - £40,000 + Monthly Bonus incentives The Opportunity This role is ideal for an experienced geotechnical professional looking to transition from a predominantly site-based role into project management.

Working within a growing project management team, you will manage smaller-scale geotechnical and ground investigation projects while receiving support and mentorship from senior project managers.

You will play a key role in coordinating field operations, managing resources, and ensuring project objectives are delivered safely, efficiently, and profitably. This position offers a clear pathway towards a full Project Manager role.

Key Responsibilities Assist with the management and delivery of ground investigation and rail infrastructure projects.<br />Coordinate field teams, subcontractors, plant, and specialist suppliers.<br />Support project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.<br />Monitor project performance against programme, budget, and quality requirements.<br />Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and operational teams throughout project lifecycles.<br />Prepare project documentation, reports, and commercial updates.<br />Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.<br />Mentor and coordinate geotechnical site teams.<br />Support the Head of Project Management and senior project managers in delivering larger projects.

Essential Skills MEng, MSc, BEng, or BSc in Engineering Geology, Geology, Physical Geography, or a related discipline.<br />Full clean UK driving licence.<br />Previous experience within geotechnical engineering, ground investigation, or rail infrastructure projects.<br />Experience supervising field investigations, site teams, or subcontractors.<br />Strong organisational and project coordination skills.<br />Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.<br />Commercial awareness and ability to manage competing priorities.<br />Desire to develop a long-term career in project management
