Job Description

At Westpac,we'rebuilding the core data foundations powering the transformation of our Economics capability into a data and AI-driven function. The DataX and Economics teams sit within WIB DDAI (Data, Digital & AI).

DataX delivers data-driven products and insights to institutional clients, while Economics provides macroeconomic research and forecasting that shapes Westpac's market voice. Together, these teamsleverageshared data assets,tooling,and publication pipelines to unlock value at scale.

This is a role for a sharp, hands-on Data Engineer who thrives in production environments-designing and operating pipelines, curated data layers, and feature stores that enableprompt, trusted, model-ready data at scale.

You'llcomplement a high-impact squad at the intersection of Data and Economics, working with complex datasets and modern platforms to support one of the most trusted economic voices in Australia. You'llbuild andoperaterobust data pipelines and curated datasets that accelerate Economics research and AI use cases, ensuring high data quality, reliability, and strong governance in a regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build andoperateingestion pipelines across internal and external data sources
  • Develop medallion-architecture data layers (bronze/silver/gold) using Spark and cloud platforms
  • Build andmaintainfeature stores supporting AI/ML workloads
  • Implement monitoring, data quality checks,alerting,and pipeline observability
  • Collaborate with data scientists tooptimisedata availability and feature design
  • Maintainclear documentation across datasets,pipelines,and lineage
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant Technology discipline
  • Proven experience building and scaling pipelines on Azure, Databricks, Synapse, Snowflake or similar
  • Solid experience in ETL/ELT design and orchestration with a reliability mindset
  • Strong data modelling and schema design capability
  • Experienceoperatingwithin complex, regulated enterprise environments
  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate across engineering and analytics teams
  • Experience with feature stores and ML data pipelines
  • Exposure to financial services or macroeconomic data domains
  • CI/CD experience for data pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)
