Position Summary:
IEM is currently seeking a Materials Supervisor for our San Antonio, Texas location and will report into the VP of Supply Chain.
This position will be based temporarily in NE San Antonio while our new manufacturing plant is coming online. Our permanent location is approximately 25 minutes away at Brooks, 7515 Inner Circle Dr., San Antonio, 78235. The position is also 100% in-office and does not offer remote work.
The Materials Supervisor is responsible for supervising the day-to-day materials operations, ensuring the safe, accurate, and uninterrupted flow of materials from receipt through supermarket inventory, point-of-use replenishment, production support, WIP, and final product shipment. This role oversees the team members and daily execution needed to maintain material availability, inventory accuracy, and production support.
The Materials Supervisor is expected to be a hands-on leader who supervises daily materials activities and supports continuous improvement efforts. The role partners closely with Supply Chain, Planning, Purchasing, Production, Engineering, and Quality to resolve material constraints, support material flow, participate in Kaizen initiatives, and help maintain standardized processes that support operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily materials management activities, including supermarket operations, receiving, inventory control, material handling, replenishment, point-of-use delivery, WIP, and finished-goods material flow.
- Support the accuracy, availability, and flow of raw material, WIP, and finished-goods inventories by reinforcing transactional discipline, location control, cycle counting, and corrective action.
- Support the implementation of standardized materials management processes aligned with production requirements.
- Maintain and update the Plan for Every Part (PFEP) system, including part characteristics, demand and usage, container quantities, replenishment methods, storage locations, and point-of-use requirements.
- Support the design and day-to-day execution of lean material replenishment systems, including Kanban, supermarkets, point-of-use inventory, pull systems, and milk runs.
- Partner with Purchasing/Supply Chain and Planning to ensure materials are on track to support production schedules, and escalate shortages, constraints, or risks to customer commitments.
- Coordinate supermarket and point-of-use material flow, supporting continuous improvement of warehouse layout, slotting, material presentation, and replenishment efficiency.
- Support inventory optimization efforts that balance material availability, service levels, working capital, inventory turns, and production continuity.
- Participate in and help lead cross-functional Kaizen events and structured problem-solving activities focused on material flow, inventory accuracy, warehouse productivity, and production support.
- Use data and operational metrics to identify root causes and support improvement opportunities, applying tools such as A3, PDCA, 5 Why, Pareto analysis, Value Stream Mapping, and standard work as appropriate.
- Partner with Production Planning and Operations to monitor material availability and production progress, escalating material issues that threaten schedule attainment.
- Partner with the MRB, Purchasing, and Quality teams to support resolution of supplier issues, vendor return material authorizations, and material discrepancies.
- Support inventory control governance, in partnership with Finance, to help identify discrepancies, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Track and report materials KPIs, including inventory accuracy, shortages, replenishment performance, inventory turns, warehouse productivity, dock-to-stock performance, and material delivery to point of use.
- Supervise, coach, and develop materials and warehouse team members by establishing clear expectations and building accountability.
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by enforcing company policies and applicable local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business, industrial engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- 4+ years of experience in materials management, inventory control, warehouse operations, logistics, or supply chain within a manufacturing environment.
- 2+ years of experience supervising or leading a team in a warehouse, materials, inventory, or manufacturing environment.
- Experience supporting or participating in lean warehouse and material replenishment systems, including PFEP, Kanban, supermarket, pull, and point-of-use concepts.
- Experience participating in Kaizen events and structured problem-solving efforts.
- Experience working with ERP/MRP systems for inventory and materials planning; SAP, Oracle, or Infor Syteline experience is a plus.
- APICS CPIM/CSCP, Six Sigma, or Lean Manufacturing certification is preferred.
- Demonstrated career ambition with a track record of growth and increasing responsibility; highly promotable with the potential to take on broader leadership roles within a fast-paced, high-growth organization.
