Sr. Security Engineer

POSITION PURPOSE: The purpose of this position is, but is not limited to, owning day-to-day security operations for our platform including cloud infrastructure and application workloads. This is a hands-on role with close collaboration with our Information Security & Risk Officer and CTO.
POSITION DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. Detect, Protect, and Respond (Hands-On Security Operations)
a. Own day-to-day security operations for AWS-based cloud and serverless workloads including threat detection, alert triage, incident response, forensics, and post-incident learning.
b. Build and tune detections and automations (SIEM rules, SOAR/runbooks, detection-as-code) to reduce MTTA/MTTR and eliminate noisy alerts.
II. Secure our delivery pipelines & runtime
a. Harden CI/CD and software supply chain, and drive "secure by default" patterns in our SDLC.
b. Lead cloud/serverless hardening (IaC reviews, policy-as-code, least privilege IAM design, network segmentation).
III. Raise the bar across the organization (beyond prod)
a. Partner with DevOps and Engineering teams to evolve identity & access, endpoint/EDR posture.
b. Coordinate vulnerability management end-to-end: scanning, prioritization, remediation, and reporting.
c. Contribute to security governance (policies, standards, tabletop exercises, BCP/DR inputs) and support compliance efforts (e.g., SOC 2/PCI DSS).
IV. Influence, automate, and measure
a. Build security tooling and integrations for engineers, acknowledging that ease of use and low friction will encourage adoption and adherence.
b. Define metrics/KPIs and regularly communicate risk & progress to engineering and leadership.
c. Mentor engineers on secure design and champion a positive, enablement-first security culture.
d. Participate in architecture and threat modeling discussions to identify security risks early in the design process.
V. Operate within our client's guidelines pursuant to the Employee Handbook and all Policies and Procedures
VI. Perform additional as requested by Supervisor and/or Management
This role will serve as a holistic role playing a hand in a mix of cloud security, application security, AI security, and vulnerability management. What is most important is being able to look beyond the day-to-day work to see the larger impact security will have on the environment, business, and customers. There are plans to use automation in many occurrences.
This organization is a fast growing company with plans to double current head count in 2026, and double again in 2027 with the increase in business.
While having exact tech stack is preferred, what is more important is familiarity with the style of business they are. Team centric mindset, handling of FinTech, working with different lines of business, and partnering with the different op-cos will be instrumental.

POSITIONAL COMPETENCIES (3-5):
I. Strong programming skills (Node, Typescript).
II. Expertise in system administration, networking, and operating systems (Linux/Unix).
III. Proficient in automation tools (Github Actions, Cloudformation, Terraform, Serverless, AWS SDK).
IV. Knowledge of AWS monitoring and logging tools such as Cloudwatch, CloudTrail, SecurityHub, GuardDuty. etc.
V. Exceptional attention to detail with a preference for highly structured procedures.
VI. Solid grasp of CI/CD security, supply-chain risks, and IaC (Terraform) security reviews.
VII. Strong incident response skills across detection, investigation, containment, and recovery especially in complex cloud-native environments.
QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE):
I. Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience in a similar role within the technology sector.
II. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.
III. 5 or more years of large-scale distributed system development.
IV. Minimum of 3 years' fintech experience, or equivalent experience with regulated environments with compliance requirements (e.g., SOC2, PCI DSS)
V. Minimum of 5 years working in Security Operations/Cloud Security/Blue Team roles, with deep, hands-on experience in AWS (IAM/GuardDuty/CloudTrail/CloudWatch).
VI. Practical expertise with SIEM/log analytics, EDR, and secrets management (e.g., Vault).
VII. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred, Google Cloud Platform, Azure) and containerization technologies (Docker, ECS).
VIII. Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools (Github Actions)
IX. Willingness to participate in a shared on-call rotation for security incidents
