Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with strong hands-on expertise managing enterprise relational database platforms in AWS and hybrid environments. The ideal candidate will have deep technical experience with IBM Db2, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and AWS RDS and a proven track record supporting complex, business-critical systems.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role for a proactive DBA who can lead from the front, mentor other database professionals, establish operational standards, anticipate risks, and drive complex technical issues through resolution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, and support enterprise database platforms across AWS and hybrid environments, including IBM Db2, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and AWS RDS.
  • Perform database installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, migrations, capacity planning, monitoring, performance tuning, and day-to-day operational support.
  • Ensure the availability, reliability, security, scalability, and performance of business-critical database systems.
  • Troubleshoot complex database and production incidents, perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and implement preventive actions.
  • Manage database backup, restore, recovery, replication, high availability, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Support disaster recovery and recovery testing to ensure database platforms meet defined availability, resilience, and recovery requirements.
  • Partner with application, infrastructure, cloud, security, engineering, and service management teams on database architecture, technical design, change planning, and operational readiness.
  • Lead and mentor other DBAs by establishing priorities, coordinating technical activities, reviewing approaches, and promoting consistent database administration standards.
  • Provide technical leadership during major incidents, upgrades, migrations, maintenance activities, and other high-impact events.
  • Identify opportunities to automate routine DBA activities, improve monitoring, strengthen operational controls, standardize processes, and improve efficiency.
  • Support database security, access management, governance, compliance, documentation, and audit activities.
  • Diagnose issues across databases, applications, operating systems, networks, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and operational procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive hands-on experience as a Database Administrator in complex enterprise environments.
  • Strong practical expertise in:
    • IBM Db2
    • Microsoft SQL Server
    • PostgreSQL
    • AWS RDS
  • Experience with database configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning, backup/recovery, patching, upgrades, and migrations.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical systems with demanding availability, performance, security, and recovery requirements.
  • Strong AWS database and cloud infrastructure experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex issues across database, application, operating system, networking, and cloud infrastructure layers.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, or coordinating DBA teams.
  • Strong technical judgment, ownership, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Self-directed and proactive with the ability to work effectively in fast-paced and ambiguous environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting large-scale, highly available, or regulated environments.
  • Experience with AWS infrastructure and cloud operations.
  • Knowledge of database automation and scripting.
  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring and IT service management.
  • Familiarity with formal change-management and change-control processes.
  • Experience with AWS database services beyond Amazon RDS.
  • Experience with cloud database migrations.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and hybrid database environments.
