Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Director of the PMO to oversee a team of Project Managers, driving both PMO and corporate objectives. This role is responsible for developing project methodologies, establishing best-practice standards, and providing strategic direction and mentorship to ensure successful portfolio delivery. The ideal candidate will be a leader who fosters accountability and transparency, builds trust across cross-functional teams, and can drive change effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- *Establish and build governance frameworks from the ground up, including standards and performance metrics to ensure accountability and transparency across all projects. *Own margin governance for the professional services portfolio, including as-sold vs. as-delivered variance analysis to identify and address margin leakage. *Partner with Sales, Delivery, and Finance to diagnose delivery cost variances and improve estimation accuracy on future statements of work. *Demonstrate hands-on capability in resource management, cost and revenue tracking, and project planning within an enterprise PPM tool. *Host and lead Executive Leadership Steering Committee meetings across multiple business units.
- Provide strategic leadership to the project team, setting direction and fostering a culture of excellence in project management.
- Develop and implement project management strategies, methodologies, and processes aligned with organizational objectives to streamline execution.
- Oversee project resource allocation, including capacity planning, staffing, and budgeting, to ensure optimal utilization.
- Provide a continuous feedback loop to product development teams to better meet project delivery objectives.
- Develop and report on KPIs for all team metrics and goals, including budget, schedule, and customer satisfaction.
Experience:
- A proven track record of leading a PMO, with 10 years of experience in IT project management, including full HR responsibilities.
- 10 years of experience developing comprehensive project plans, including charter, scope, statement of work, cost estimates, and schedule.
- Direct experience with margin governance, including owning margin performance end-to-end and conducting as-sold vs. as-delivered variance analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to build governance frameworks from the ground up, not just operate within an existing structure.
- Experience with an enterprise PPM tool (e.g., ServiceNow, Clarity, Planview, or similar) is required.
Skills:
- Expert knowledge of project management principles, business requirements, and technical requirements.
- Advanced experience in developing methodologies and best practices.
- Ability to analyze RFP responses and provide scoping input on timeline and budget.
- Exceptional client-facing communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with ServiceNow is a plus.
- Familiarity with onboarding one-time professional services into a managed services portfolio.
