Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join a growing commercial electrical contractor serving the Houston market. This role is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive estimates for commercial and industrial electrical construction projects while managing the bidding process from plan review through project handoff.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in commercial electrical estimating, understands construction drawings and specifications, and can confidently develop complete bid packages while working in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for commercial and industrial electrical construction projects.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from construction drawings and specifications.
- Solicit, review, and analyze vendor and subcontractor quotations.
- Develop complete bid proposals, scopes of work, clarifications, and pricing summaries.
- Identify scope gaps, project risks, and value engineering opportunities.
- Coordinate with general contractors, suppliers, engineers, and internal project teams throughout the bidding process.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits as required.
- Support project turnover by providing complete estimating documentation to the operations team after project award.
- Maintain historical cost data, vendor relationships, and estimating records.
- Manage multiple bids simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines.
- 5+ years of commercial electrical estimating experience.
- Experience estimating commercial, industrial, healthcare, educational, or institutional electrical projects.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, NEC requirements, construction drawings, and specifications.
- Proficiency performing detailed quantity takeoffs and developing complete bid proposals.
- Experience using electrical estimating software (Accubid, ConEst, McCormick, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
- Residential-only estimating experience is not sufficient for this role.
