Job Description

Head of Software Engineering - Startup
Central London - Hybrid
Salary of £110,000 - £150,000 DOE + Hybrid Working

This role is for a Head of Software Engineering to lead the technical direction of a fast-growing technology start-up, building and scaling a high-performing engineering team while remaining hands‑on with the design and delivery of a cloud‑based software platform. You'll own the engineering roadmap, drive best practices across architecture and delivery, and work closely with commercial and technical stakeholders to develop innovative software solutions for complex, real‑world challenges.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and grow the software engineering team.
  • Define and own the platform architecture.
  • Deliver the engineering roadmap and product releases.
  • Develop scalable cloud‑based software solutions.
  • Drive DevOps and deployment best practices.
  • Integrate APIs and third‑party systems.
  • Ensure platform performance, reliability, and security.
  • Work closely with technical and commercial stakeholders.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Proven hands‑on leadership, including building and scaling teams from scratch.
  • Strong people management, hiring, and mentoring experience.
  • Agile project delivery, roadmap planning, and milestone management.
  • Engineering management covering architecture, testing, and software delivery.
  • Strong technical skills including Python, Linux, GCP, Git, APIs, and CI/CD.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, Docker/Kubernetes, and AI‑enabled development.
  • Desirable: Experience with power systems, SCADA, energy trading, battery storage, or optimisation platforms.

SALARY & BENEFITS

  • Basic salary of £110,000 - £150,000 DOE.
  • Hybrid working.

LOCATION

This is a full‑time role based in Central London, with three days per week in the office.
