Job Description

Role Summary
This position involves supporting the FAA's network infrastructure to ensure the reliable operation of mission-critical aviation systems. The role requires installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise networking hardware and frameworks across multiple locations within the Oakland, CA region. It offers an opportunity to contribute to national aviation safety initiatives in a long-term, support-focused capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the uptime, performance, and security of FAA network infrastructure.
  • Install, configure, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems.
  • Support SD-WAN solutions across distributed environments.
  • Install, terminate, and test fiber optic cabling, including single-mode and multi-mode fibers.
  • Perform fiber testing using OTDR and certification tools.
  • Monitor systems, analyze logs, and respond to incidents on a daily basis.
  • Troubleshoot network issues across fiber, SD-WAN, and IP layers, escalating as necessary.
  • Support network cutovers, migrations, and failover validations.
  • Maintain accurate network diagrams, documentation, and configuration records.

Qualifications

  • This position requires eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance. In accordance with federal law, U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience or equivalent combination (e.g., Masters 6+, Associates 10+, HS diploma 12+).
  • Proven experience in managing and supporting enterprise network environments.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, or similar networking technologies.
  • Experience with TDM-to-IP migrations and modern IP-based networking.
  • Solid understanding of SD-WAN, fiber optics, and wireless LAN/WAN technologies.
  • Familiarity with firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios).
  • Ability to interpret network diagrams and schematics.
  • Experience with fiber testing tools such as OTDR.

Publishing Pay Range: $66.00 - $71.00 hourly
This position is based in office and requires employee to work on-site.
