Are you ready to take your power systems expertise to the next level?
WSP is seeking an Associate/Principal Power Systems Engineer to join our national team and help deliver some of Australia's most significant energy projects.
In this technical leadership role, you'll drive complex grid connection studies, generator performance assessments and detailed power system modelling. You'll work across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and advisory through to execution, commissioning and model validation, while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with specialists across the industry.
About Our TeamOur Power & Energy team works with developers, utilities and network service providers to deliver future ready energy solutions. We support secure and reliable power supplies, reduce emissions and contribute to Australia's transition to renewable and hybrid generation.
Our Power Systems Analysis & Grid Connections team delivers full cycle services, including:
- Feasibility and early stage assessments
- Owner's engineer and technical due diligence
- Power system modelling and simulation
- Generator Performance Standards (GPS) studies
- Connection application packages (R0, R1)
- R2 model validation and GPS compliance
- Technical advisory through commissioning
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (Chartered desirable)
- Strong experience in utility scale power system analysis, including steady state, dynamic and EMT studies
- Experience with GPS studies (R0/R1), R2 commissioning plans and model validationUnderstanding of the Australian NER (or similar international frameworks)
- Proficiency in PSS/E and PSCAD; PowerFactory a plus
- Knowledge of synchronous and inverter based technologies, storage and hybrids
- Strong technical communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience engaging with AEMO, DNSPs and TNSPs
- Experience with hybrid renewables, data centre connections or automation/Python (advantageous)
- Lead or support the technical delivery of transmission and distribution projects
- Contribute to feasibility, modelling, GPS assessments and commissioning support
- Mentor graduates and junior engineers
- Provide technical advice to clients and support connection negotiations
- Collaborate across WSP's national Power & Energy teams
- Support bids and proposals with robust technical input
