Overall Purpose and Objective of Position

The Trader Trainee Internship is the first step in your career at LDC. It is an immersive 10-week paid program designed to equip you with the tools and knowledge you will need to thrive at LDC. You will learn about the commodities industry by working side-by-side with our industry experts. Our interns don’t learn by watching, they learn by getting involved in real trades. This “on-the-job” training demands a wide range of skills, including the knowledge and use of statistical information, particularly supply/demand economics, and quantitative analysis. The internship is designed to develop future leaders who will solve complex problems and design innovative solutions to develop, advance, and modernize the entire food supply chain to meet the growing challenge of feeding the world. Interns will be considered for full-time employment as a Trader Trainee, after graduation. Candidates must be open to placements in Memphis, Tennessee or Wilton, Connecticut.

 

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

· Interns will complete a 10-week program and learn how to trade physical commodities in global markets while managing the substantial risks inherent in volatile markets. · Program starts with a comprehensive training seminar designed to help you succeed in your position. · You will gain familiarity with the physical flow of commodities in both domestic and international markets. · You will be assigned hands-on, robust work, goals, and objectives tied to real business needs. · Interns have direct access to senior traders and managers in an open working environment that is designed to encourage the free flow of ideas and information. · Interns are encouraged to actively participate, ask questions, and offer opinions.

 

Additional Responsibilities

· Research and analyze market data.

· Create spreadsheets to organize relevant data.

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses

Must be enrolled in college pursuing a two or four-year degree in one of the following areas: Business, economics, agriculture, communications or marketing.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)

· Willingness to learn the basics of futures markets, hedging and customer relations.

· Possesses a genuine interest in sales and enjoys interacting with new people daily, with the ability to socialize easily and gain trust and extract information through conversation.

· Skilled in communication, both written and verbal

· Proficient with MS Word and Excel.

Working Conditions

Primarily climate-controlled office environment. Periodic visits to industrial operations areas are necessary with exposure to variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions. Regular exposure to gases, vapors, dust and odors. Occasional exposure to areas with wet floors and high volume of noise. Some stair climbing is required. Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects or to respond to emergencies. Some weekend work will be

required.

Employee Supervision

Supervises no other employees.

 

Decision Making/Accountability

Exercises judgment, within established parameters, to arrive at appropriate merchandising/origination decisions and actions for the purpose of adding value to the firm; assesses risk pertaining to buying and selling in the corn and distiller market.
