Job description

12-month fixed term contract with Vale Vets, Dursley

Up to £55,000 (FTE)

At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we're trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.

At Vale Vets, we're looking for a vet to join us on a 12 month contract. The role offers a well-balanced caseload of surgery, medicine and consulting. Ideally, we’re looking for someone to join us on a 12-month fixed term contract, working 30 hours per week over 3 days. There’s also additional requirements for 1 in 8 full weekends, 1 in 8 Saturday mornings and 1 late shift (12pm - 10pm) per fortnight. TOIL is given for OOH work.

How You’ll Make a Difference

As a Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll work collaboratively with the wider practice team to deliver a high standard of patient and client care across a varied and rewarding caseload.

You’ll continue to develop your clinical skills and interests while sharing your knowledge and experience with colleagues, contributing positively to the clinical culture of the practice. You’ll be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering excellent care and supporting the ongoing development of those around you.

More about us

Currently we have 10 First Opinion Clinicians, 8 Referral Vets, around 30 Nursing Staff and a dynamic management team of 5. We have certificate holders in our First Opinion team and we're lucky to have the support of specialists within our Referral team. We have all the modern facilities that you’d expect: including digital X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, CT and extensive animal care facilities. We have 24-hour nursing cover; the on-call vet is responsible for the hospitalised in-patients, and you will have the option of accepting emergencies after 10pm (for renumeration) or passing them over to neighbouring external OOH clinics.

Here's what the team have to say

‘At Vale you are spoilt with a modern hospital with all the mod cons, but actually, the best thing about working here is the people. The first opinion team are an experienced team who look out for each other, and having the referral team in the same building means you can always pop into their office for advice. If you want to work up your own interesting case you can, and they will be there to scrub into a surgery with you or help you run a CT scan. This balance provides great job satisfaction.’ - Zephanie, Veterinary Surgeon
