Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager – Commercial Tax Services to join our team in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles. The ideal candidate will have 6+ years of public accounting experience with a strong background in tax compliance, tax planning, consulting, tax research, and client relationship management.

This position will be responsible for reviewing tax returns and workpapers, managing client engagements, providing tax advisory services, overseeing tax return processes, and mentoring junior staff. The successful candidate will be comfortable working directly with clients and contributing to business development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and oversee the preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns.
  • Review tax workpapers, supporting schedules, and tax projections for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide clients with tax consulting, planning, compliance, and advisory services.
  • Manage multiple client engagements and ensure tax projects are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Research complex tax issues and provide practical recommendations and solutions.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and communicate relevant impacts to clients and internal teams.
  • Identify tax planning opportunities and recommend strategies that align with client objectives.
  • Oversee the complete tax return process, including review, revisions, and finalization.
  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding tax positions, issues, deadlines, and recommendations.
  • Assist with resolving tax notices, compliance issues, and other client tax matters.
  • Support business development and client acquisition activities.
  • Participate in proposals, presentations, and other growth initiatives as needed.
  • Mentor, train, and provide technical guidance to tax staff and junior professionals.
  • Collaborate with accounting and other professional service teams to deliver high-quality client solutions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local tax regulations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of professional tax experience, preferably within a public accounting firm.
  • Strong experience with tax compliance, tax planning, consulting, and tax research.
  • Experience reviewing tax returns, workpapers, and projections.
  • Strong client relationship and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior tax professionals.
  • Steady and progressive work history.
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, CA.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. as a .

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or EA designation preferred.
  • Master's degree in Taxation preferred.
  • Public accounting firm experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting commercial/business clients.
  • Experience with complex tax planning and advisory engagements.
  • Experience supporting business development and client expansion.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a client-focused Tax Manager with 6+ years of public accounting experience who can independently manage tax engagements, review tax returns and workpapers, provide tax planning and consulting services, research complex tax matters, and mentor tax professionals.

A CPA or EA with strong commercial tax experience and a stable career history will be highly preferred.
