Job Description

Openmind’s client is expanding its ability to support Snowflake‑oriented customers with Snowflake‑native AI, ML, and semantic‑layer capabilities. We are seeking a Senior Snowflake AI/Cortex Engineer who can directly address the knowledge gaps identified in their current AI Engineering organization and help accelerate Snowflake AI/Cortex development, semantic‑layer design, SQL‑ML workloads, and Horizon governance.

This role is structured as contract‑to‑hire, with the intent to convert to full‑time as client builds long‑term Snowflake AI competency.

Title: Senior Snowflake Cortex Engineer (Contract‑to‑Hire)

Work location: 100% Remote role

Terms 3-6 Months+ Contract to Hire

Key Responsibilities

Snowflake AI/Cortex Development

  • Build and optimize Snowflake AI Cortex workloads for inference, feature engineering, and AI-driven insights.
  • Integrate Cortex capabilities into Client’s AI solutions for Snowflake-oriented customers.

Snowflake ML Engineering

  • Develop SQL‑based ML pipelines and Snowpark ML workflows.
  • Build and deploy custom ML models using Snowpark container runtime.
  • Re-engineer Databricks MLFlow‑based workflows into Snowflake-native equivalents.

Semantic Layer Engineering

  • Design and implement Snowflake’s DDL‑based semantic metadata and governed semantic views.
  • Translate Databricks metric‑view patterns into Snowflake semantic‑layer constructs.

Governance & Platform Architecture

  • Implement and operationalize Snowflake Horizon governance across data, semantics, ML, and AI workloads.
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise governance, security, and compliance standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Client AI Engineering teams building GenAI Data Solutions, Apps, and Agentic Development workflows.
  • Partner with product, engineering, and customer teams to deliver Snowflake-native AI/ML capabilities.

Advisory & Knowledge Transfer

  • Provide architectural guidance, best practices, and hands-on mentorship to internal teams.
  • Help client build long-term Snowflake AI expertise and reduce dependency on Databricks-oriented patterns.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5–10+ years in Data Engineering, ML Engineering, or AI Engineering.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake AI Cortex.
  • Deep expertise in Snowflake SQL‑ML, Snowpark, and containerized ML workloads.
  • Experience building Snowflake semantic layers using DDL-based metadata and governed views.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake Horizon governance.
  • Experience re-engineering or migrating ML/semantic workloads between Databricks and Snowflake.
  • Ability to operate in lead/admin/architect roles.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional engineering teams.

Nice to Have

  • SnowPro Core or SnowPro Advanced certifications.
  • Experience with GenAI, LLM-based applications, or agentic development frameworks.
  • Prior experience supporting Snowflake-oriented enterprise customers.
