Role Summary
The Principal Engineer for the Genesys Cloud CX platform is a senior technical leader responsible for the architecture, design, and long-term technical strategy of enterprise contact center solutions. This role combines deep hands-on expertise with Genesys Cloud CX and strong leadership, influencing platform standards, integrations, security, scalability, and operational excellence across the organization.
The Principal Engineer partners closely with the Architecture Team, Network Engineering, DevOps, Security, Product, and Business stakeholders to ensure the Genesys Cloud environment is resilient, compliant, cost-effective, and aligned with business outcomes.

This role combines deep hands-on expertise with Genesys Cloud CX and strong leadership, influencing platform standards, integrations, security, scalability, and operational excellence across the organization.
The Principal Engineer partners closely with the Architecture Team, Network Engineering, DevOps, Security, Product, and Business stakeholders to ensure the Genesys Cloud environment is resilient, compliant, cost-effective, and aligned with business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Serve as the primary technical authority for the Genesys Cloud CX platform.
- Define and maintain reference architectures, design patterns, and best practices for contact center solutions.
- Lead complex platform designs including routing strategies, IVR/Architect flows, workforce engagement, digital channels, and analytics.
- Evaluate new Genesys features, releases, and integrations; provide recommendations and adoption roadmaps.
- Provide long-term cost forecasting and platform capacity planning.
- Oversee integration patterns between Genesys, telephony carriers, identity platforms, CRM systems, and various analytics tools.
- Design, build, and maintain highly available, scalable, and secure Genesys Cloud CX environments.
- Lead advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for platform and integration issues.
- Establish standards for monitoring, logging, alerting, and performance optimization.
- Promote API-driven configuration management and automation of platform provisioning.
- Create naming conventions, tagging standards, and configuration governance.
- Architect and oversee integrations between Genesys Cloud CX and CRM, WFM, data platforms, identity providers, and third-party systems.
- Provide technical guidance on API usage, event streaming, webhooks, and custom applications.
- Review and approve complex solution designs and custom development efforts.
- Ensure platform designs meet security, privacy, and regulatory requirements (e.g., PCI, GDPR, SOC2 where applicable).
- Partner with Security and Risk teams to implement controls, audits, and access governance.
- Define standards for data retention, encryption, identity, and role-based access.
- Analyze and optimize licensing models (CX1, CX2, WEM, digital).
- HIPAA considerations for voice recording and data storage.
- Mentor and coach engineers across teams; raise the overall technical bar.
- Lead design reviews, architectural discussions, and post-incident reviews.
- Influence without authority by setting direction, documenting standards, and building consensus.
- Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Act as a trusted advisor to leadership on platform capabilities, risks, and tradeoffs.
- Support vendor management and act as an escalation point with Genesys and partners.
- 8-12+ years of experience in contact center, cloud, or enterprise platform engineering roles.
- Deep hands-on experience with Genesys Cloud CX (routing, Architect, Admin, Analytics, WEM, Digital, Voice).
- Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures (SaaS, APIs, microservices, event-driven systems).
- Proven experience designing and supporting large-scale, mission-critical contact center environments.
- Expertise in REST APIs, JSON, OAuth, webhooks, and event streaming.
- Experience with telephony concepts (SIP, VoIP, PSTN, call flows, QoS).
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in complex distributed systems.
- Genesys Cloud CX certifications (Professional, Specialist, or Expert levels).
- Experience integrating with CRM platforms (Salesforce, ServiceNow, Dynamics, etc.).
- Familiarity with DevOps tools, CI/CD pipelines, and automation scripting.
- Experience with data analytics, speech/text analytics, or AI-driven contact center features.
- Prior experience in regulated industries or large enterprise environments.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to balance long-term architecture and short-term delivery.
- Clear communicator who can explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Strong ownership mindset and bias toward action.
- Collaborative leader who builds trust across teams and functions.
- Primarily remote with collaboration across distributed teams.
- On-call or escalation support may be required for critical incidents.
- Platform stability, performance, and availability.
- Adoption of standardized architectures and best practices.
