Senior DevOps-Harness Engineer

Locations: Charlotte, NC; Plano, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Johnston, RI

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to design, automate, and maintain our cloud infrastructure and continuous delivery pipelines. In this role, you will lead the administration of our Harness CI/CD, RO (Release Orchestration) platform, strengthen the platform using policy-as-code using Open Policy Agent (OPA), and manage AWS cloud environments using Terraform and Ansible.

Additionally, we are exploring Agentic AI to build intelligent DevOps automatio - candidates with experience or a strong desire to build AI-driven operational bots will have an opportunity to lead those initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• CI/CD Platform Administration: Manage and optimize deployment pipelines and workflows using Harness CI/CD, Jenkins, GitHub Actions.

• Policy & Governance: Implement policy-as-code and compliance guardrails across pipelines using Open Policy Agent (OPA) and Harness Admin controls.

• Infrastructure & Configuration Management: Provision cloud environments on AWS using Terraform and automate server configurations with Ansible.

• Container Orchestration: Deploy, manage, and scale microservices on K8s clusters.

• Automation & Scripting: Write clean, maintainable scripts using Python and Bash to automate operational tasks.

• Version Control: Standardize branching strategies, pull request workflows, and repository management using Git.

• AI Bot Development (Opportunity): Collaborate on integrating tool-using AI agents into pipeline diagnostics, automated incident response, and Slack/ChatOps workflows.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 8+ years of experience in DevOps, DevSecOps, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Cloud Engineering, or related IT disciplines.

• Proven experience owning the end-to-end software delivery lifecycle, including build, test, release, deployment, rollback, monitoring, and production support.

• Demonstrated ability to manage enterprise-scale deployment platforms supporting multiple applications and development teams.

• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills in complex distributed environments.

Harness Platform Expertise

·       Minimum 2+ years of hands-on Harness Administration experience.

·       Experience creating and maintaining Harness templates, connectors, secrets, environments, service definitions, and deployment workflows.

·       Strong understanding of Harness governance, RBAC, policies, approvals, and platform administration capabilities.

·       Experience supporting large-scale CI/CD implementations using Harness.

CI/CD & Release Management

·       Extensive experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines using Harness, Jenkins, and GitHub Actions.

·       Strong understanding of build automation, deployment automation, release orchestration, and environment promotion strategies.

·       Experience implementing reusable pipeline architectures and deployment best practices.

Governance & Security

·       Hands-on experience implementing Open Policy Agent (OPA) and policy-as-code frameworks.

·       Knowledge of CI/CD governance, security controls, compliance enforcement, and audit readiness.

·       Experience integrating security controls into software delivery pipelines.

Cloud & Container Platforms

·       Strong working experience with AWS services and cloud-native architecture principles.

·       Hands-on expertise with EKS, OpenShift, Kubernetes, and container ecosystem technologies.

·       Experience managing production-scale cloud environments and containerized applications.

Infrastructure as Code & Configuration Management

·       Advanced Terraform expertise including module development, remote state management, and infrastructure lifecycle management.

·       Strong Ansible experience for automation, orchestration, and system configuration management.

·       Proven ability to build scalable and reusable infrastructure automation solutions.

Programming & Automation

·       Strong proficiency in Python with demonstrated experience developing automation frameworks, platform tools, and operational utilities.

·       Strong Bash scripting expertise for Linux-based automation and administration tasks.

·       Experience integrating REST APIs and platform services to automate complex workflows.

Source Control

·       Deep understanding of Git workflows, branching strategies, repository governance, code review processes, and GitOps practices.

Desired / Bonus Qualifications (Agentic AI)

• Experience or strong interest in Agentic AI 

• Familiarity with LLM function/tool calling (OpenAI / Anthropic APIs, Model Context Protocol) to trigger DevOps tools programmatically.

• Understanding of how to build guardrails, human-in-the-loop approvals, and automated troubleshooting bots for operational workflows.
