Primary Responsibilities
· Work as a member of a cross-functional team comprised of well-rounded engineers who can learn new skills rapidly and work across multiple functional domains to deliver infrastructure services end to end.
· Work closely with senior engineers, other team members, application owners, the ISD team, the ISD Manager, and the Tech Lead to solve technical problems at the network, system, and application levels.
· Follow rigorous change management approval process with attention to detail.
· Quickly diagnose and resolve system issues and outages to minimize impact, collaborating with other IT professionals to address complex problems.
· Monitor system performance by regularly reviewing system logs, CPU usage, memory usage, and network performance to help ensure optimal functioning.
· Identify potential issues before they escalate by analyzing performance data and trends.
· Help design, test, and deploy innovative technical solutions that leverage new technologies to modernize the program.
· Manage and maintain applications and infrastructure supporting CMS and the public.
· Install and configure operating systems, applications, and software updates.
· Plan and execute system upgrades to improve performance and functionality, ensuring compatibility and stability during and after upgrades.
· Support deployments and other software release activities.
· Work in AWS environments as well as on-premises environments.
· Perform application profile updates to ensure data remains accurate and current.

· Support and identify customer issues and needs by maintaining effective relationships with end users and stakeholders.
· Represent the program when meeting with Application Development Organizations and identify opportunities to provide support, modernization, and innovation for their applications.
· Create, modify, and publish documentation as required for the ISD.
· Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by establishing and participating in feedback loops.
· Work independently on larger, moderately complex projects and assignments.
· Work in a high-paced, dynamic environment while adapting to evolving priorities and solutions.
· Support weekend and on-call activities as required.
· Grow professional capabilities while helping expand the value and breadth of services delivered to CMS.
Basic Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of prior relevant experience. Experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
· Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
· Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
· Knowledge of AWS environments.
Experience or knowledge with configuration management and release automation tools, including:
o Ansible
o Terraform
o GitHub
o Jenkins
o CloudBees CD
· System administration experience with Windows Server 2019 or higher and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8 or higher.
· Knowledge of software release management practices, tools, and automation.
· Understanding of cloud terminology, architecture, provisioning, and monitoring.
· Strong communication, writing, and collaboration skills.
· Ability to provide technical direction and hands-on software deployment support.
· Efficient communication and a zero-handoff mentality.
· Ability to adapt and remain productive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
· Self-starter who is self-managed and able to work effectively as part of a team.
· Understanding of basic network design concepts and TCP/IP.
· Analyze authentication and authorization requirements for AWS and hybrid cloud services; evaluate identity, role, permission, federation, and least-privilege controls across IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS environments; and document risks and mitigation recommendations in coordination with security, infrastructure, application, and stakeholder teams.
Preferred Qualifications
· Other technical certifications, such as AWS or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), are desirable.
· Knowledge of information assurance compliance and information security fundamentals.
· Programming or development experience, including experience with code repositories such as GitHub and deployment in multi-tier environments.
· Experience working with JIRA, Confluence, and ServiceNow (SNOW).
· Experience with Agile-based initiatives, including Scrum ceremonies and work management tools.
· Experience with challenging customers and complex stakeholder environments.
· Flexibility and comfort with evolving solutions while identifying the most effective path to implementation.
· Proven ability to work collaboratively with application owners, customers, stakeholders, and cross-functional technical teams.
