Job Description

Are you an electronics engineer who enjoys working across hardware and embedded firmware, taking products from initial ideas and prototypes through to testing, release and ongoing improvement?

The Talent Movement is supporting an established UK manufacturer of laser and energy-based equipment. Operating within an innovative and continually developing industry, electronic engineering plays a central role in creating products that deliver real, visible outcomes for customers.

As the business continues to invest in its in-house Research and Development capability, it is looking for an Electronic Development Engineer to join its multidisciplinary team.

This is a hands-on product development role with a balanced focus across electronics hardware and embedded firmware. You will contribute throughout the full lifecycle, from requirements and circuit design through to prototyping, testing, compliance and ongoing product support.

What youll be doing

  • Designing electronic hardware for new and existing products, including schematic capture, PCB layout and component selection
  • Developing and maintaining embedded firmware for microcontroller-based products using C or C++
  • Working across analogue, digital and mixed-signal electronics
  • Building, commissioning and debugging prototypes in a hands-on laboratory environment
  • Using oscilloscopes, analysers and other test equipment to investigate issues and improve performance
  • Supporting verification, validation, design reviews, risk assessments and technical documentation
  • Contributing to EMC and electrical-safety testing
  • Supporting products in manufacture and in the field, including design improvements, component changes and obsolescence management
  • Collaborating with mechanical, software, test, manufacturing, quality and regulatory colleagues

You will also have the opportunity to gain exposure to RF, laser control, high-voltage and energy-delivery technologies.

Who were looking for

You will have practical experience developing electronic products and be comfortable working across both hardware and firmware.

The strongest candidates are likely to bring:

  • Electronic circuit and PCB design experience
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer or another modern ECAD package
  • Embedded firmware development using C or C++
  • Experience with microcontrollers such as PIC, STM32, ARM or similar
  • Knowledge of analogue, digital or mixed-signal electronics
  • Hands-on prototyping, testing and debugging experience
  • The ability to analyse results and solve complex technical problems
  • Experience supporting products through development, manufacture and their ongoing lifecycle
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in electronic, electrical or a related engineering discipline

Previous medical-device experience would be useful, but it is not essential. Applications are equally welcomed from engineers working in other regulated or technically demanding sectors, including aerospace, defence, scientific instrumentation, industrial electronics, robotics, test and measurement, imaging, sensors or photonics.

You do not need to meet every requirement. The company is particularly interested in engineers with strong product-development foundations, technical curiosity and the ability to learn new technologies.

What you can expect:

Interesting, tangible products

Work on physical products combining electronics, firmware, software, mechanical engineering, optics and laser technologies.

End-to-end involvement

See your work progress from an initial requirement through to a functioning product used by customers.

Training and development

Develop your knowledge of medical-device engineering, regulatory standards and specialist energy-based technologies.

A collaborative culture

Join an open and supportive multidisciplinary environment, working closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality and regulatory teams.

Package

  • £45,000 to £50,000 depending on experience
  • Company profit-related bonus scheme
  • 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays
  • An additional day off for your birthday
  • Life assurance at three times salary
  • Auto-enrolment pension
  • Discounted company products and treatments
  • Hybrid working, with three days a week onsite in Holmes Chapel
