Job description

New Construction Manager

$110 - 135K / year

About the role

Location: Cleveland, OH (on-site at the shipyard, shore-based)

Mural Group is leading a search for a long-established Cleveland marine company that has built most of its tug fleet in its own shipyard. They are in the process of reopening the shipyard's new-construction division.

Our client is hiring a New Construction Manager to lead that program from planning through delivery. This is a build-the-process role: you'll stand the division back up, then run it. Unlike most construction leadership jobs, it's one stable Cleveland site, not a travel schedule.

What you'll own

  • Program delivery: Lead vessel construction projects from planning through delivery, starting with two new tugs.

  • Rebuilding the process: Re-establish the new-construction operating process β€” work packages, sequencing, procurement, and closeout.

  • Schedule: Build and run the master schedule; plan labor, equipment, and materials against it.

  • Budget: Own the program budget, job-cost tracking, and change management.

  • Safety: Lead shipyard safety, including hot work and confined space, with authority to stop unsafe or nonconforming work.

  • Quality: Coordinate inspections, QC documentation, and nonconformance resolution.

  • People: Lead and develop foremen and multi-trade crews β€” fitters, welders, pipefitters, electricians, and outfitting.

  • Vendors and subcontractors: Select, manage, and hold accountable the outside suppliers and subs the program depends on.

  • Reporting: Keep shipyard and company leadership current on schedule, cost, and risk.

What you bring

  • 10+ years in shipbuilding or ship repair, with a strong shipyard and steel construction background

  • 5+ years supervising multi-trade crews and foremen

  • Direct ownership of schedule, budget, and safety on a vessel or industrial build

  • Working knowledge of structural steel and marine fabrication, and coordination of welding, piping, mechanical, electrical, coatings, and outfitting

  • Reads and works from drawings, specs, and fabrication packages

Preferred Qualifications

  • Has stood up or relaunched a new-construction program

  • Drydock, waterfront, or tug/workboat experience

  • Bachelor's in Construction Management, Construction Engineering Technology, or engineering β€” or equivalent field leadership

  • OSHA 30; CWI or PMP a plus

  • Procore or equivalent; P6 or MS Project

  • Navy, Coast Guard, or naval-industrial background

  • Experience leading union workforces

  • Classification-society or government-contract quality requirements

Compensation and benefits

  • Base: $110K–$135K, depending on experience; flexible for exceptional candidates

  • Health benefits from day one

  • Company-paid life and disability insurance after 90 days

  • 401(k) with 3% match after 6 months

  • Stable, shore-based role at a single Cleveland site
