Job Description

Linux Systems Engineer (RedHat)

Location: London (Hybrid - 3 days per week onsite)
Contract: Initial contract (duration TBC)
Rate: Circa £490 per day (PAYE)

We're looking for an experienced Linux Systems Engineer to join a highly skilled engineering team responsible for maintaining and enhancing a large-scale, globally deployed RedHat Linux platform. This is an excellent opportunity to work on enterprise-level infrastructure, driving automation, scalability, and platform reliability within a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance a global RedHat Linux infrastructure.
  • Develop, manage, and optimise Linux platform management systems.
  • Implement infrastructure using configuration-as-code and automation best practices.
  • Design, build, and improve platform features and system configurations.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across hardware, operating systems, networking, and storage.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and business stakeholders to deliver platform enhancements.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of new infrastructure solutions.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Expert knowledge of RedHat/Linux, UNIX system calls, and low-level operating system and network protocols.
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as SaltStack, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Strong Python programming skills with the ability to write robust, maintainable code.
  • Experience automating Linux patching, testing, and deployment processes.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across enterprise infrastructure.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in large enterprise or globally distributed environments.
  • Knowledge of Git, Jenkins, CI/CD, and automated testing.
  • Experience with private cloud, virtualisation, or IaaS platforms.
  • Container technologies and secure container management.
  • Open-source contributions or experience with Perl, C, or C++.
