AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Manager to support complex construction and environmental remediation projects involving mining operations, mine closure, site restoration, and related infrastructure. This role offers the opportunity to lead field execution, oversee multidisciplinary construction management teams, and deliver projects safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contractual requirements, technical specifications, and client expectations.

The successful candidate will bring extensive construction management experience, ideally involving mining, mine reclamation, environmental remediation, earthwork, grading, excavation, and heavy civil construction. This individual will serve as a senior field leader, coordinating contractors, engineering teams, inspectors, and project stakeholders while managing construction quality, schedule, cost, safety, and regulatory compliance. Strong leadership, technical judgment, and the ability to resolve complex field issues will be essential to project success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee field construction management activities for mining-related infrastructure, environmental remediation, mine closure, reclamation, and site restoration projects.
  • Direct construction management personnel, including resident engineers, inspectors, field engineers, and office engineering staff, to ensure effective project delivery and coordination.
  • Manage day-to-day construction activities, ensuring work is performed in accordance with approved plans and specifications, contract requirements, applicable permits, environmental commitments, and health and safety standards.
  • Oversee earthwork, excavation, grading, embankment construction, material handling, drainage improvements, and other heavy civil construction activities associated with mining and remediation projects.
  • Monitor contractor performance, construction progress, project schedules, costs, and resource utilization; identify risks and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Review and manage contractor submittals, requests for information (RFIs), change orders, pay applications, schedules, and other construction documentation.
  • Evaluate proposed construction changes, field conditions, and technical challenges; coordinate with design teams and clients to develop practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Oversee construction quality assurance and quality control activities, including inspection programs, materials testing coordination, documentation, and verification of compliance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate environmental compliance activities associated with remediation, mine closure, and reclamation, including erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, waste handling, and implementation of approved environmental protection measures.
  • Lead construction progress meetings, coordinate with contractors and client representatives, and communicate project status, issues, risks, and recommended actions to project leadership.
  • Maintain accurate project records, daily reports, meeting minutes, inspection documentation, progress reports, and other required construction management records.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to construction management staff, promoting consistent procedures, sound engineering judgment, and a strong safety culture.
  • Support project closeout activities, including punch lists, final inspections, record documentation, resolution of outstanding issues, and preparation of final construction reports.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline and 10+ years of relevant construction management experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, along with 2 years of prior leadership experience.

    • A valid driver's license is required, along with the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check in accordance with company policy
    • U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status is required for this role.  Sponsorship will not be available at this time or in the future.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 15+ years of relevant construction management experience, with a strong background in mining-related construction, mine closure, reclamation, environmental remediation, or heavy civil infrastructure projects.
    • Experience managing construction projects involving mine site earthwork, excavation, grading, embankment construction, drainage systems, soil management, site restoration, or related infrastructure.
    • Demonstrated experience leading construction management teams on large, complex, or technically challenging projects.
    • Experience with environmental remediation projects involving contaminated soil, groundwater, waste management, site restoration, or implementation of environmental mitigation measures.
    • Experience serving as a Resident Engineer, Construction Manager, or senior field representative with responsibility for contractor oversight, construction administration, and project delivery.
    • Strong understanding of construction contract administration, including submittals, RFIs, change orders, claims, pay applications, schedule reviews, and cost control.
    • Experience preparing and reviewing technical reports, field documentation, construction progress reports, change order justifications, and other project deliverables.
    • Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, construction plans, and contract documents and to resolve complex field issues.
    • Knowledge of construction quality management, health and safety requirements, environmental compliance obligations, and applicable industry standards.
    • Experience coordinating with mining operators, environmental specialists, engineering teams, contractors, regulatory agencies, and client representatives.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead meetings, negotiate resolutions, and communicate technical information to diverse audiences.
