Job Description

Horizon VDI Architect

Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Horizon VDI Architect with strong hands-on experience designing, deploying, and managing Omnissa Horizon (formerly VMware Horizon) environments on AWS. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end architecture, infrastructure configuration, identity integration, networking, security, and Windows image management strategy.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and deploy production-ready Omnissa Horizon VDI infrastructure on AWS.

• Configure and manage Horizon Connection Servers, Unified Access Gateways (UAGs), and vCenter integration.

• Design desktop pools using Instant Clones and Full Clones.

• Develop the architecture for approximately 30 custom Windows golden images.

• Integrate Horizon with Active Directory, LDAP, MFA, SSO, and identity providers.

• Design VPCs, subnets, security groups, VPN/Direct Connect, DNS/DHCP, and load-balancing solutions.

• Implement App Volumes, Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM), or equivalent application/profile management solutions.

• Establish monitoring and logging using AWS CloudWatch, vROps, or equivalent tools.

• Apply security best practices including CIS/STIG hardening and GPO management.

• Develop HLD/LLD documentation, operational runbooks, and image lifecycle documentation.

• Support HA, disaster recovery, scalability, and performance optimization.

Required Skills

• 5+ years of hands-on Omnissa/VMware Horizon experience.

• Strong experience with Connection Servers, UAGs, Blast/PCoIP, Instant Clones, and Linked Clones.

• Strong AWS experience with VPC, EC2, EBS, FSx, IAM, Security Groups, VPN/Direct Connect.

• Experience deploying Horizon on AWS/VMC on AWS or native EC2.

• Strong Active Directory, LDAP, MFA, SAML/SSO integration experience.

• Strong networking knowledge including VLANs, subnet segmentation, firewalls, DNS/DHCP, and load balancing.

• Experience with App Volumes, DEM, or similar application/profile layering technologies.

• Strong knowledge of Windows 10/11 Enterprise and Windows Server environments.

• Experience with CIS/STIG hardening, GPOs, and VDI security.

• Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and architectural design skills.

Preferred Skills

• Omnissa VCP-DTM / VCP-DW or equivalent certification.

• AWS Solutions Architect certification.

• Experience with Horizon Cloud on AWS.

• Terraform or CloudFormation experience.

• Familiarity with AWS WorkSpaces.

• Experience in FedRAMP, IL4/IL5, or StateRAMP environments.

Additional Experience

• Windows golden image creation and optimization.

• PowerShell scripting and automation.

• Packer or similar image automation tools.

• FSLogix or Omnissa DEM.

• Windows patching/WSUS strategies.

• Experience supporting Windows 10, Windows 11, Server 2019/2022.

Education & Certifications

Relevant bachelor''s degree or equivalent experience preferred.

Desired Certifications:

• Omnissa VCP-DTM / VCP-DW

• AWS Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional

• Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate

• CompTIA Security+

Candidate Profile
