AI Tech Lead (Azure OpenAI / Generative AI Engineer)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced AI Tech Lead to lead the design, development, and deployment of AI-powered applications across our growing healthcare organization. This role will be responsible for building practical, production-ready AI solutions using Microsoft Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, modern development tools like Cursor, and enterprise data platforms.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on AI engineer who can translate healthcare business opportunities into secure, scalable AI applications. This person will work directly with executive leadership, clinical teams, operations, IT, and data teams to identify high-value AI opportunities and rapidly deliver solutions that improve patient care, operational efficiency, revenue cycle performance, and business intelligence.

This is a highly technical role requiring someone who enjoys writing code, experimenting with emerging AI capabilities, and bringing AI solutions from concept through production.

Key Responsibilities

AI Application Development & Delivery

• Design, develop, and deploy Generative AI applications using:
• Microsoft Azure AI Foundry
• Azure OpenAI Services
• Large Language Models (LLMs)
• AI agents and copilots
• Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG)
• Vector search and knowledge retrieval solutions
• Build full-stack AI applications using modern development practices, including:
• Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript
• APIs and microservices
• Cloud-native application patterns
• Git/GitHub workflows
• AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor and GitHub Copilot
• Rapidly prototype AI solutions and evolve successful prototypes into secure production applications

Healthcare AI Solutions

Develop AI capabilities that improve healthcare operations, including:

• Patient record summarization and clinical insights
• Medical record review and analysis
• Clinical documentation assistance
• Treatment history analysis
• Case management automation
• Attorney and referral partner reporting
• Patient communication automation
• Operational analytics and executive insights
• Revenue cycle optimization
• Workflow automation across healthcare operations

Data Integration & AI Enablement

• Integrate AI applications with enterprise data sources, including:
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems
• Snowflake Enterprise Data Warehouse
• Healthcare APIs
• Document repositories
• Structured and unstructured healthcare data
• Build reusable AI services, components, prompts, workflows, and development patterns
• Help establish standards for AI application development, testing, deployment, and monitoring

Security, Compliance & Responsible AI

• Develop AI solutions following healthcare security and privacy requirements
• Ensure appropriate handling of Protected Health Information (PHI) within HIPAA-regulated environments
• Implement secure AI application patterns including:
• Identity and access management
• Role-based access controls
• Data protection and encryption
• Auditability and monitoring
• Secure prompt and data management practices
• Partner with IT and security teams to ensure responsible AI adoption

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering, application development, or cloud engineering experience
• Demonstrated experience building Generative AI applications using LLM technologies
• Hands-on experience with:
• Azure AI Foundry
• Azure OpenAI Services
• AI application development
• REST APIs and integrations
• Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript
• Modern web application frameworks
• Git-based development workflows
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as:
• Cursor
• GitHub Copilot
• Other AI coding assistants
• Strong understanding of:
• Prompt engineering
• RAG architectures
• Vector databases
• AI agents
• LLM application patterns

Preferred Qualifications

• Healthcare technology experience strongly preferred
• Experience working with:
• HIPAA-regulated environments
• Electronic Medical Records (EMRs)
• Clinical data
• Healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7)
• Snowflake or enterprise data platforms
• Azure cloud security and identity management
• Experience taking AI solutions from prototype through production deployment
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical teams and healthcare business stakeholders

Success in This Role Looks Like

Within the first 6 months, the AI Tech Lead will:

• Establish our AI application development framework and best practices
• Build and deploy multiple production AI applications
• Create reusable AI capabilities that accelerate future development
• Enable teams to safely leverage AI across clinical, operational, and administrative functions
• Identify and deliver measurable improvements through automation and intelligence
