Job Title: Senior AWS Data Engineer

Location: Newark, NJ (Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite)

Employment Type: Full-Time (FTE)

Salary: $120,000 – $130,000/year + Benefits

We are seeking a Senior AWS Data Engineer to join our growing data engineering team and build scalable, cloud-native data platforms on AWS. This is an excellent opportunity for professionals with strong expertise in AWS Data Engineering, Python, SQL, Spark, ETL, and Infrastructure as Code who are passionate about delivering secure, high-performance enterprise data solutions.

The ideal candidate will have experience designing modern data pipelines, optimizing cloud-based ETL workflows, and working within enterprise environments, preferably in the Insurance domain.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, cloud-native data pipelines on AWS.

  • Build and optimize ETL/ELT workflows using AWS Glue, Apache Spark, and Amazon EMR.

  • Develop production-grade data applications using Python and SQL.

  • Design efficient, secure, and scalable cloud data architectures.

  • Automate infrastructure provisioning using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and AWS CodePipeline.

  • Optimize SQL queries, Spark jobs, and data pipeline performance.

  • Implement AWS security best practices using IAM, KMS, VPC, and CloudWatch.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize production data pipelines.

  • Work with Docker and container technologies including ECS/EKS.

  • Collaborate with Data Engineers, Architects, DevOps, and business stakeholders in an Agile environment.

  • Evaluate emerging AWS technologies and recommend best practices for enterprise data platforms.

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering excellence.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS services including:

    • Amazon S3

    • AWS Glue

    • Amazon EMR

    • AWS Lambda

    • Amazon EC2

    • Amazon RDS

    • DynamoDB

    • CloudWatch

    • IAM

    • VPC

  • Strong programming experience with Python and SQL.

  • Hands-on experience building and optimizing ETL pipelines.

  • Strong expertise in Apache Spark, AWS Glue, EMR, and Hadoop.

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or CloudFormation.

  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins or AWS CodePipeline.

  • Experience with Git version control.

  • Hands-on experience with Docker and container orchestration (ECS/EKS preferred).

  • Strong Linux administration and scripting skills (Bash/PowerShell).

  • Strong understanding of AWS security, IAM policies, KMS encryption, and cloud governance.

  • Expertise in database design, SQL optimization, and performance tuning.

  • Experience using monitoring tools such as Splunk, ELK, Grafana, or Prometheus.

  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Life Insurance or the Insurance industry.

  • Application development experience.

  • Technical leadership or mentoring experience.

  • Bachelor''s or Master''s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
