Engineering Manager, Packaging

Location: Close to Deeside and Chester
Type: Permanent
Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 depending on experience

The Company

Russell Taylor is working with a well-established UK manufacturing business within the packaging sector is entering an exciting phase of growth, investment and operational development. Following significant investment into its manufacturing operations, the business is relocating into a brand-new, purpose-built production facility featuring the latest manufacturing technology and equipment.

The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping engineering strategy, driving reliability and supporting the successful transition into a modern, high-performing manufacturing environment.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Plant Engineering Manager to lead all engineering and maintenance activities across a high-volume packaging manufacturing facility. This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for plant reliability, asset performance, engineering strategy, health and safety compliance, and continuous improvement across the site.

Lead and manage all engineering and maintenance activities across the manufacturing site.
Ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of production machinery and site assets.
Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance programmes.
Drive improvements in equipment reliability, plant uptime, OEE and overall asset performance.
Manage engineering budgets, spare parts inventory and external contractor performance.
Ensure compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation and engineering standards, including PUWER and other relevant regulations.
Recruit, develop and lead a high-performing multi-skilled engineering team.
Support capital investment projects, including equipment installation, commissioning and site development.
Work collaboratively with Production, Operations and Senior Leadership to deliver business objectives and continuous improvement initiatives.

The Person

Previous experience in an Engineering Manager, Maintenance Manager or similar leadership role within a corrugated packaging (or similar) industry
Experience within the packaging, paper, print, converting, plastics etc manufacturing industries needed
Strong knowledge of automated production machinery, maintenance strategies and engineering best practice.
Proven ability to lead and develop multi-skilled engineering teams.
Experience implementing continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis and asset management systems.
Good understanding of UK engineering standards and health & safety legislation.
Qualifications
Engineering qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline.
IOSH or NEBOSH qualification would be advantageous.
Chartered Engineer status is beneficial but not essential.
