Job Overview

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Ruby on Rails Developer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience building scalable, secure, and high-performance web applications using Ruby on Rails.

 

You will work closely with product managers, designers, QA engineers, and other developers to design, develop, test, and deploy robust applications. This role is suitable for a developer who can independently own features while also contributing to technical decisions and mentoring junior team members.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable web applications using Ruby on Rails.
  • Build clean, maintainable, reusable, and well-tested code.
  • Translate business requirements and product specifications into technical solutions.
  • Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services.
  • Design and optimize database schemas, queries, and application performance.
  • Integrate third-party APIs, services, and external systems.
  • Write unit, integration, and automated tests to ensure application quality.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, identify root causes, and implement effective fixes.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate with frontend developers, QA engineers, DevOps, product managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to system architecture and technical design discussions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve application performance, reliability, scalability, and security.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Mentor junior developers and help improve the overall engineering team's technical capabilities.
  • Contribute to CI/CD, deployment, monitoring, and production support activities where required.

 

Required Skills & Experience

  • 4–8+ years of professional software development experience, with significant hands-on experience in Ruby on Rails.
  • Strong proficiency in Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
  • Solid understanding of Rails conventions, MVC architecture, ActiveRecord, background jobs, and API development.
  • Strong experience with RESTful API design and development.
  • Good knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL, or other relational databases.
  • Strong understanding of SQL, database design, indexing, and query optimization.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks such as RSpec, Minitest, Capybara, or equivalent.
  • Good understanding of Git and modern software development workflows.
  • Experience working with background processing tools such as Sidekiq, Resque, or similar.
  • Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and frontend frameworks is a plus.
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JSON, and HTTP/REST concepts.
  • Experience integrating third-party APIs and external services.
  • Understanding of application security, authentication, authorization, and common web vulnerabilities.
  • Experience working with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform is preferred.
  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.

 

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience or knowledge with Java or Python
  • Experience building and maintaining high-traffic or distributed applications.
  • Knowledge of Redis, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, Kafka, or RabbitMQ.
  • Experience with microservices or service-oriented architectures.
  • Familiarity with AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, ECS/EKS, Lambda, or CloudWatch.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerized deployments.
  • Knowledge of performance monitoring and observability tools.
  • Experience with TDD/BDD and clean-code principles.
  • Contributions to open-source projects or technical communities.
