Job Summary

Provides advanced database administration across SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL platforms supporting grid and market systems, delivering expert-level operational support across the full-service lifecycle for the duration of the contract. This contract role serves as a hands-on operational delivery resource, executing complex and standard database work, receiving escalations, and providing technical guidance to peers as needed. The role owns advanced troubleshooting, escalation handling, replication management with a strong emphasis on Oracle GoldenGate, proactive monitoring and tuning through Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), performance optimization, and disaster recovery execution. Success in this position requires a dependable team player and quick learner; collaborates effectively across application, infrastructure, and compliance teams; and works with appropriate autonomy to coordinate operational changes within the company’s regulated environment.

Job Duties

  • Provides advanced troubleshooting and resolution of database outages, performance degradation, replication failures, backup exceptions, and availability events across SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL databases supporting grid and market systems, using diagnostic tools, vendor support, and cross-team coordination as needed.
  • Administers and supports Oracle GoldenGate replication, including heterogeneous configurations across Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL, performing extract/replicat monitoring, lag analysis, conflict detection and resolution, trail management, and switchover support to maintain continuous data availability.
  • Supports high-availability and disaster-recovery configurations across platforms, including Oracle Data Guard, SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, and PostgreSQL streaming replication and high-availability clustering, including failover preparation, execution, and post-event validation.
  • Performs proactive database monitoring, analysis, and tuning using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), Oracle Automatic Workload Repository and Active Session History, SQL Server Management Studio, and PostgreSQL monitoring tooling; identifies and resolves query performance issues, resource contention, and capacity constraints before they affect service availability.
  • Executes backup and recovery operations and disaster recovery activities for assigned databases, ensuring Rubrik Cloud Data Management, together with native backup utilities across SQL Server, Oracle (Recovery Manager), and PostgreSQL, meets defined RPO and RTO targets and recovery procedures are tested and validated on schedule.
  • Plans and executes database patching, security updates, and version upgrades across all three platforms through the ServiceNow change management process, including risk assessment, testing coordination, rollback planning, and post-change validation.
  • Coordinates schema changes with application development teams, including index optimization, deployment sequencing, and environment refresh activities to support grid and market application release cycles.
  • Supports database access reviews, least-privilege enforcement, and compliance evidence collection for NERC CIP and SOC audit requirements; serves as a knowledgeable resource for compliance assessments related to the database service area.
  • Develops automation using Ansible, Python, shell scripting, PowerShell, PL/SQL, and Transact-SQL to reduce recurring manual tasks; contributes to infrastructure-as-code practices using Terraform and Git within the team's established standards where applicable.

Additional Job Duties

  • Performs assigned database tasks during monthly data center site switchover exercises, coordinating failover execution, replication validation, and post-switchover verification.
  • Maintains and improves knowledge articles, runbooks, operational standards, and support documentation used by the team and adjacent responders.
  • Manages incidents, service requests, and change records within ServiceNow, and coordinates vendor support tickets escalated through Oracle, Microsoft, and PostgreSQL support channels, tracking resolution through completion.
  • Contributes to capacity planning and lifecycle management activities by analyzing database growth trends, storage utilization, and platform lifecycle timelines.
  • Participates in incident post-mortem reviews and contributes to root cause analysis and corrective action planning for significant database events.
  • Provides cross-training to team members and operational partners to build depth and reduce single points of knowledge within the department.

Experience

  • Five to eight years of progressively responsible experience in database administration in multi-platform environments involving Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.
  • Hands-on Oracle GoldenGate replication administration and proactive monitoring and tuning through Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM).
  • Advanced troubleshooting, high-availability and disaster-recovery management, backup and recovery, performance tuning, and patching coordination in a production environment supporting business-critical applications.
  • Proficiency with scripting and automation, including Python and shell scripting, is required.
  • Experience in a regulated environment subject to NERC CIP or SOC is strongly preferred
  • Configuration-management and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Ansible and Terraform, along with familiarity with the ServiceNow IT service management platform, is a plus.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Certifications

  • Oracle Certified Professional – Database Administratior
  • Oracle GoldenGate certification or demonstrated equivalent experience
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
  • PostgreSQL certification (e.g., EDB PostgreSQL Associate/Professional), or demonstrated equivalent experience
  • HashiCorp Terraform Associate or equivalent infrastructure-as-code certification
