IBM AS/400 iSeries Engineer – Managed Services

Job Description
We are seeking an IBM AS/400 iSeries Engineer to support a Managed Services engagement, with responsibility for both production support and enhancement work. The role will focus on maintaining the stability, performance, and availability of core business applications running on IBM i (AS/400 / iSeries), while also delivering incremental improvements, fixes, and small-to-medium enhancements. The ideal candidate is hands-on, responsive in a support environment, and comfortable working across incident resolution, problem management, change implementation, and application enhancement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day production support for IBM i / AS400 / iSeries applications and interfaces
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve incidents, service requests, and problem tickets within SLA targets
- Perform root cause analysis for recurring issues and implement preventive fixes
- Develop, modify, test, and deploy enhancements and production fixes
- Support batch jobs, job schedules, CL programs, RPG programs, DB2 for i objects, and related interfaces
- Monitor system and application performance, identify bottlenecks, and recommend improvements
- Collaborate with business users, functional teams, infrastructure teams, and vendors to resolve issues
- Support change management, release activities, and production deployments
- Create and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and support knowledge articles
- Participate in on-call or after-hours support as needed, depending on service windows
Required Skills and Experience
- Strong experience supporting IBM AS/400, IBM i, or iSeries environments
- Proficiency in RPG/RPGLE, CL, DB2 for i, and related IBM i tools
- Experience with production support in a managed services or operations environment
- Hands-on experience with batch job monitoring, debugging, and issue resolution
- Understanding of incident, problem, change, and release management processes
- Ability to read and analyze existing code, logs, job queues, and spool files
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple support requests
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SQLRPGLE, API integrations, data migration, or interface support
- Familiarity with service management tools such as ServiceNow, Jira, or equivalent
- Exposure to performance tuning, security controls, and system administration concepts on IBM i
- Experience working in regulated or enterprise-scale environments
