Applications Engineer I

Summary

Applications Engineer - PRESTO

Location - Novi, MI- Hybrid

The Applications Engineer supports the deployment, demonstration, and customer adoption of PRESTO, Hexagon's automated robotic metrology solution. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, this role assists with system installations, demonstrations, customer training, and technical support while developing expertise in metrology and automation.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support customer demonstrations and Proof of Concepts under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Assist with installation, configuration, and validation of PRESTO systems.
  • Perform basic measurement routines using PC-DMIS, PolyWorks, or similar software.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of customer technical issues.
  • Deliver introductory operator training and documentation.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Service, Product Management, and Engineering.
  • Document field findings and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Travel up to 70% across North America and occasional international travel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Mechatronics, Manufacturing, Automation Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 0-2 years of experience in metrology, manufacturing, automation, robotics, or engineering through industry or internships.
  • Basic understanding of GD&T, dimensional inspection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Willingness to learn coordinate metrology, robotic automation, and industrial software.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel extensively and work safely in manufacturing environments.

Work Environment

  • Frequent travel to customer manufacturing facilities across North America.
  • Work in industrial environments requiring appropriate PPE.
  • Occasional lifting of equipment up to 30 lbs .
