As VP Business Development, you will play a key role in identifying, shaping and driving high-priority opportunities from early positioning through proposal submission, negotiation and transition to delivery.
In this role, you will work closely with executive leadership, strategy, capture, proposals, operations, finance, contracts, legal and corporate partners to identify, shape, capture and win priority opportunities that align with SGS strategy and capabilities. You will assess the federal market, identify and qualify opportunities and help position SGS to pursue and win business that aligns with our strategy, capabilities, past performance and delivery capacity.
Success in this role requires deep knowledge of government procurement, strong relationships across the public-sector ecosystem and a proven record of winning complex federal opportunities. You will bring disciplined pipeline management, strategic opportunity shaping, persuasive executive engagement and sound judgment to help drive SGS's continued growth.

Sedgwick Government Solutions provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in jurisdictions requiring pay transparency in job postings. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and cost of a specific location. For the jurisdiction noted in this job posting only, the range of starting pay for this role is ($170,000-$190,000). This position is also eligible for an incentive compensation plan. A comprehensive benefits package is offered including, but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, 401k and matching, PTO, disability and life insurance, employee assistance, flexible spending or health savings account, and other additional voluntary benefits.

VP Business Development Duties and Responsibilities

- Executes SGS's federal growth strategy across priority civilian and defense markets and identifies opportunities aligned with company capabilities and growth objectives.
- Identifies, qualifies and advances new business opportunities through account planning, customer engagement, market research and federal procurement activities.
- Builds and maintains trusted relationships with government executives, program leaders, contracting officials, industry partners and other key stakeholders.
- Leads opportunity shaping and positioning activities by translating customer missions, needs and challenges into differentiated SGS solutions.
- Develops strategic account plans and provides recommendations on market entry, investment, teaming, solution development and bid/no-bid decisions.
- Cultivates strategic partnerships and develops teaming strategies that strengthen SGS's competitive position, address capability gaps and expand access to priority opportunities.
- Builds and maintains a qualified pipeline with clear win strategies, milestones, competitive assessments, customer actions and revenue forecasts.
- Leads or oversees capture planning for priority pursuits including win themes, discriminators, solution development, price-to-win inputs and executive gate decisions.
- Partners with proposal leadership and subject-matter experts to develop compelling, compliant and evaluator-focused proposals, RFP responses and other customer-facing materials.
- Represents SGS at government and industry conferences, procurement events, associations and customer forums to strengthen relationships, identify emerging requirements and generate new opportunities.
- Collaborates across Strategy, Capture, Proposals, Operations, Finance, Contracts, Legal, Compliance, Human Resources, Technology and corporate partners throughout the business development and pursuit lifecycle.
- Supports successful transition from award to implementation by engaging delivery teams early and ensuring customer commitments, resources, pricing and operational readiness are aligned.
VP Business Development Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience required.
- A minimum of five years of progressive experience in federal business development, capture management, sales or growth strategy for government services or solutions is required.
- Proven success identifying, shaping, capturing and winning complex competitive government opportunities with multiple stakeholders and extended acquisition cycles.
- Background in developing account plans, capture strategies, competitive assessments, teaming strategies and executive-level pipeline forecasts.
- Experience selling healthcare, claims, workers' compensation, managed care, medical management, property, program integrity, data analytics, technology-enabled services or related professional services to government clients.
- Working knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulation, source-selection practices, contract vehicles, small-business considerations and the federal budget and procurement lifecycle.
- Established relationships across relevant federal agencies, prime contractors, integrators and industry partners.
- Executive presence and credibility with senior government officials, contracting professionals, industry partners and internal executives.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills including executive briefings, proposal development and customer-facing presentations.
- Proven ability to collaborate across proposal teams, subject-matter experts and cross-functional partners while managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a matrixed environment.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required.
- Must be able to travel based on business needs and satisfy applicable client, contract and security requirements.
