The Role We are seeking an experienced IT Change Manager to join a Defence-focused program based in Canberra. This is a hands on role responsible for managing, documenting, coordinating, and progressing infrastructure and technology changes through Defence change management processes. The successful candidate will play a critical role in helping clear a backlog of changes while ensuring compliance with Defence governance, operational requirements, and established ways of working. Working closely with technical teams, project stakeholders, and operational support teams, you will drive change activities from initiation through to implementation while ensuring changes are accurately documented, assessed, approved, and communicated. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Defence environments and practical experience working with DSMS and Defence change management frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the end-to-end change management process for infrastructure, cloud, network, and application changes.
• Document, review, and process a backlog of technology changes through Defence governance frameworks.
• Ensure all changes are appropriately assessed, documented, approved, and communicated.
• Work closely with technical teams to gather change requirements and implementation details.
• Coordinate change reviews, approvals, scheduling, and implementation activities.
• Maintain change records, documentation, and reporting within DSMS.
• Support change planning, risk assessment, impact analysis, and implementation readiness activities.
• Facilitate stakeholder engagement across technical and business teams.
• Ensure compliance with Defence change management processes, standards, and operational requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve change management processes and operational efficiency.
• Support audit, governance, and compliance activities related to change management.

What You'll Need

• Experience in IT Change Management, Service Management, or IT Operations environments.
• Strong experience managing infrastructure, network, cloud, or enterprise technology changes.
• Demonstrated experience working within Defence or Defence-related environments.
• Practical experience using and administering DSMS.
• Strong understanding of ITIL change management principles and service management practices.
• Experience coordinating change approvals, implementation planning, and governance processes.
• Ability to quickly assess, document, and progress large volumes of change requests.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Experience working with technical engineering and infrastructure teams.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation capability.
• Ability to operate independently within fast paced and complex environments.
• Strong organisational, prioritisation, and problem solving skills.
