Apex Systems is hiring a Sr. Systems Engineer (Kafka/AWS) for a large Healthcare client.

Location: Fully remote anywhere in the US.

Role Overview

Our organization is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to manage and maintain our Kafka platforms. The role involves supporting both self-hosted and Confluent Cloud Kafka platforms, which are utilized by over 130 client applications for data streaming. The primary focus is on platform administration, automation, client support, and production support, rather than extensive project work. This position will contribute to data integration efforts using Kafka between the company and its approved third-party vendors.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer Kafka platforms, both on-premise and in the cloud.
• Develop new services and enhancements for platform capabilities.
• Provide solution engineering and develop Proofs-of-Concept.
• Lead the evaluation, design, and integration of system enhancements or new releases.
• Define system and product requirements, generating performance and reliability specifications.
• Develop, modify, test, implement, and maintain systems software and hardware.
• Troubleshoot and resolve server, operating system, and other infrastructure problems.
• Monitor systems and networks for malfunctions and errors.
• Coach junior team members and perform code reviews.
• Provide client support and manage incidents.
• Prepare network analytics, data reports, and operational manuals.

Required Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or business field such as statistics, mathematics, engineering, or computer science is required.

Experience: A minimum of 4-6 years of related experience is required. Equivalent experience acquired through accomplishments of applicable knowledge, duties, and skills will be considered.

Technical Skills:

• Apache Kafka administration.
• AWS experience.
• Experience with Event-Driven Architecture and Event Streaming.
• Familiarity with monitoring, alerting, and logging tools, preferably Dynatrace and Splunk.
• Knowledge of DevOps and CI/CD principles.

Preferred Qualifications

• Confluent Cloud or Platform administration experience.
• Experience with NoSQL databases, preferably Mongo DB.
• Knowledge of Cyber Security, PowerShell, Endpoint Engineering, and network protocols.
• CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) certification.
