Job Description

About This Role

A leading automotive EV battery manufacturer is hiring a hands-on Battery Manufacturing Engineer for its Implementation Group, supporting EV battery production setup and new-model launches at its Liberty, North Carolina plant (100% onsite). You will develop process plans and lead equipment procurement, installation, commissioning, pre-production trials, and launch of battery production lines — owning detailed schedules and budgets for an assigned area, working in advanced-cleanliness (clean room) environments, and driving trials to hit safety, quality, and productivity targets. Proven machining/machine-operations experience is essential, along with electronic assembly or battery-related manufacturing background and experience in large-scale, complex operations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop process plans for battery production lines with direct support from the manager
  • Lead equipment procurement, installation planning and execution, commissioning, pre-production trials, and launch of battery production lines
  • Lead and/or support equipment trials at vendors prior to shipping and on the floor after installation — ensuring safety, quality, and productivity targets are met
  • Work in advanced-cleanliness (clean room) protocols required for the assigned battery manufacturing area
  • Perform punch-list identification, root cause analysis, and countermeasure management
  • Summarize KPIs, support mass-production handover, and resolve production issues
  • Create and maintain detailed schedules and maintain budgets for assigned areas
  • Engage cross-functional teams (domestic and international) on open items and key project schedules/milestones
  • Collaborate with fellow engineers, the construction management group, technicians, vendors, and general contractors to hit project milestones
  • Participate in daily written and verbal reports up to Senior Manager level; complete internal and external training

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or a similar technical field
  • 3+ years of professional experience in a manufacturing environment (project execution or equipment setup)
  • Proven machining and machine-operations experience (critical) and experience with electronic assembly and/or battery-related manufacturing processes
  • Experience working in large-scale organizations due to operational complexity
  • Production preparation and execution of capital projects — ideally from initial strategy planning to the start of mass production
  • Project-management experience with capital investments greater than $0.5M
  • Creating and maintaining detailed schedules, including milestone achievement for equipment installation
  • Ability to read and interpret 2D drawings (building facilities and process equipment); 2D/3D drafting such as AutoCAD; Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Ability to travel up to 25% (domestic; limited international) and work weekends, holidays, and shutdowns (e.g., July and December)
  • Preferred: automotive battery manufacturing; laser welding; Mitsubishi PLC programming and PLC read/interpret/modify; SCADA, MES, and Kepware (or similar)

Required Skills

  • Machining and machine operations (hands-on, proven)
  • Electronic assembly and/or battery-related manufacturing processes
  • Production equipment installation, commissioning, pre-production trials, and launch
  • Capital-project execution — planning through start of mass production, with $0.5M+ investment management
  • Detailed project scheduling, milestone tracking, and budget control for assigned areas
  • Reading and interpreting 2D building/facility and process-equipment drawings
  • Root cause analysis, countermeasure management, and KPI summarization for mass-production handover
  • Clean-room / advanced-cleanliness protocol work
  • *Software / platforms:* AutoCAD (2D/3D); Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); PLC (Mitsubishi), SCADA, MES, Kepware (preferred)
