Job Description

As AWS Lead Technical Architect, the candidate will provide executive-level technical leadership for AWS transformation, cloud modernization, migrations, and enterprise architecture delivery.

This role requires a proven record of success leading complex AWS Transform initiatives, workload migration programs, cloud landing zone design, application and infrastructure modernization, and ODB migration planning and execution across large-scale client environments.

The TA will guide architecture decisions, establish technical roadmaps, govern solution standards, and partner with delivery, security, operations, migration factory, and account leadership to ensure resilient, secure, scalable, and cost-effective AWS solutions. This role is based in Los Angeles, California and requires presence in the NTT DATA office two to three days per week, along with onsite participation in customer meetings as needed. The role will work closely with senior leaders to align AWS capabilities to business outcomes, optimize resource utilization, drive innovation, and ensure solutions are comprehensive, future-ready, operationally sustainable, and supported by a clear return on investment for customers.

The AWS Technical Architect will report directly to the Account Sr. Delivery Director.
 

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Defines and leads AWS architecture strategy, including AWS Transform adoption, migration patterns, landing zone standards, reference architectures, governance principles, automation practices, and lifecycle management approaches.
  • Provides senior technical direction for AWS transformation and migration initiatives across compute, storage, network, database, security, observability, backup, disaster recovery, and operations domains.
  • Leads managers, architects, engineers, migration teams, and IT professionals through guidance, coaching, and technical oversight to ensure assignments are completed in accordance with established guidelines, policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Translates organizational vision and account strategy into executable AWS technical roadmaps that align cloud capabilities with business, security, financial, migration, and operational objectives.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders, department heads, senior management, and customer leadership on AWS architecture decisions, migration risks, modernization opportunities, technical tradeoffs, prioritization, and transformation sequencing.
  • Ensures AWS solutions are designed for scalability, reliability, automation, observability, availability, security, performance, compliance, cost optimization, and operational efficiency.
  • Creates a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement while leading teams through complex AWS transformation, modernization, and migration programs.
  • Oversees planning, assessment, design, migration execution, cutover readiness, transition, and measurement of AWS platforms, cloud services, databases, and related IT systems.
  • Provides executive technical governance for large or complex projects, ensuring architecture quality, delivery progression, migration readiness, value realization, risk management, and alignment with client and account priorities.
  • Supports ODB migration planning and execution by assessing source environments, validating migration approaches, identifying dependencies, aligning cutover strategies, and ensuring operational readiness.
  • Manages technology planning, cost optimization, vendor engagement, software and platform evaluation, and financial stewardship to maximize business outcomes and operational value.
  • Stays current on emerging AWS services, cloud migration approaches, automation, AI-enabled operations, cybersecurity, database modernization, and infrastructure technologies, recommending practical adoption paths that improve service quality and reduce risk.
  • Participates in vendor evaluation, contract review, solution selection, and partner management to ensure cost-effective, secure, and reliable AWS services and solutions.
  • Partners effectively with third-party service firms, portfolio management, cloud transformation, agile delivery, product management, IT security, supply chain, legal, and the broader architecture community.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders on AWS capability roadmaps, operational readiness plans, migration approaches, database migration strategies, and service improvement initiatives.
  • Develops and maintains IT policies, architecture standards, migration playbooks, operational procedures, and compliance practices relevant to AWS platforms and enterprise cloud services.
  • Collaborates with management on organizational structure, operating model design, talent planning, and change initiatives required to support AWS transformation and sustained operations.
  • Supports recruitment, development, retention, performance management, and succession planning to build a strong pipeline of AWS architects, migration engineers, database specialists, and technical leaders.
  • Recommends and drives adoption of new technologies, AWS services, automation practices, and delivery methods that improve outcomes for customers, employees, executives, and account teams.

 

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of diversified IT infrastructure, cloud, architecture, migration, or enterprise technology experience required.
  • 7+ years of experience in a technical architecture capacity, with significant AWS cloud, AWS Transform, workload migration, cloud modernization, database migration, or hybrid cloud delivery experience preferred.
  • 5+ years managing first-level leaders, architects, engineers, migration teams, or high-level professional staff required.
  • Proven record of success leading large-scale AWS transformation, migration, infrastructure modernization, platform transformation, database migration, or enterprise architecture initiatives from strategy through execution.
  • Experience designing and implementing scalable, secure, highly available, cost-optimized, and operationally supportable AWS solutions across enterprise environments.
  • Experience with AWS services, landing zones, identity and access management, networking, automation/orchestration, migration tooling, observability, backup, disaster recovery, and IT service management.
  • Understanding of ODB migration approaches, dependency assessment, migration sequencing, cutover planning, validation, performance considerations, and operational readiness preferred.
  • Familiarity with hybrid cloud operating models, microservices architecture, container platforms, security architecture, generative AI, and AI-enabled operations preferred.
  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture tools, graphical modeling approaches, road mapping methods, repository management, migration factory practices, and cloud governance methods preferred.
  • Knowledge of business models, operating models, financial models, cost-benefit tradeoff analysis, technology risk management, vendor ecosystems, and cloud-based delivery models preferred.

 

Other Key Characteristics:

  • Relevant certifications or demonstrated knowledge in AWS architecture, AWS migration, AWS Transform, ITIL®, TOGAF®, Agile, SAFe®, PMI®, Organization Change Management, Lean Six Sigma, cybersecurity, infrastructure automation, or database modernization disciplines preferred.
  • Knowledge of Public Sector and State, Local, and Education agencies, including government-related standards, security expectations, procurement practices, and regulatory requirements preferred.
  • Executive presence with the ability to communicate complex AWS technical strategies, migration risks, architecture recommendations, and business outcomes clearly to customer leadership, account executives, delivery teams, and technical stakeholders.
