Job Description

Greenfield Engineering, a Saalex Company is seeking a Navigation Systems Engineer (PNT/GPS) in Lexington Park, MD to support the Mission Systems Group and related military avionics programs.The selected candidate will provide engineering support for the design, integration, testing, certification, and sustainment of Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) capabilities across Navy and Marine Corps aircraft platforms. This role focuses on advanced navigation technologies including Global Positioning System (GPS), Inertial Navigation Systems (INS), Embedded GPS/INS (EGI), Navigational Warfare (NAVWAR), Radar Altimeters (RADALT), and traditional navigational aids.

Working alongside NAVAIR engineers and platform Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), this position directly supports mission effectiveness, safety of flight, and operational readiness by helping ensure the successful integration and fielding of robust, reliable, and precise navigation capabilities.

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $140k - $170k (depending upon experience)
Work Location: Full-time onsite.

Essential Functions:

  • Support the design, integration, testing, certification, and sustainment of aircraft navigation systems across multiple aviation platforms.
  • Provide engineering analysis and technical support for Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) technologies, including GPS, INS, EGI, NAVWAR, NAVAIDs, and RADALT systems.
  • Support navigation modernization initiatives, including EGI upgrades and RADALT 5G C-band mitigation efforts.
  • Analyze navigation system performance and provide technical recommendations to platform program offices and engineering teams.
  • Participate in system design reviews, engineering studies, technical evaluations, and certification efforts.
  • Review and support the development of engineering documentation, flight clearances, Engineering Data Requirements Agreement Plans (EDRAPs), and certification artifacts.
  • Assist in the development and refinement of specifications and requirements for navigation systems and related avionics technologies.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve technical issues and support aircraft integration activities.
  • Provide technical briefings, engineering recommendations, and supporting documentation for stakeholders and leadership.
  • Contribute to technical research, technology development efforts, and future navigation capability initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Required:

  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles related to aircraft avionics and navigation systems.
  • Working familiarity with Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) technologies such as GPS, INS, EGI, NAVWAR, NAVAIDs, and RADALT systems.
  • Ability to analyze technical data, engineering documentation, and system performance information.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to contribute effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience or academic coursework related to the design, integration, testing, or certification of navigation systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles to solve technical challenges.

Desired:

  • Experience supporting military aircraft, avionics systems, or mission systems programs.
  • Familiarity with flight clearances, airworthiness certification, or aircraft integration activities.
  • Experience supporting NAVAIR, Naval Aviation, or Department of Defense programs.
  • Knowledge of GPS modernization initiatives, navigation warfare concepts, or integrated avionics architectures.
  • Experience supporting flight testing, systems integration, or technical certification efforts.

Education:

A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline desired. Experience or academic coursework related to the design, integration, or testing of GPS, inertial, or other navigation systems may be considered in lieu of degree.

Security Clearance:

Active Secret clearance required. Requirements to obtain a clearance include US Citizenship, security investigation, etc.
