The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer (Electrical Bias) to join a well-established engineering team based at a modern production facility in Oxford. This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically qualified engineer who enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where reliability, continuous improvement and teamwork are key.

Working as part of a close-knit engineering department, you will play a vital role in ensuring production equipment operates efficiently by carrying out planned preventative maintenance, responding to equipment breakdowns and supporting ongoing improvement projects. You'll have the opportunity to work on a variety of electrical and mechanical systems while contributing to the overall performance and reliability of the site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across a wide range of production and manufacturing equipment.
  • Respond promptly to reactive maintenance and equipment breakdowns, diagnosing faults and implementing effective repairs to minimise downtime.
  • Fault find and repair electrical systems including motors, inverters, drives, sensors, contactors, relays, control panels and PLC-controlled machinery.
  • Support mechanical maintenance activities including work on bearings, belts, gearboxes, pumps, conveyors and other production equipment.
  • Work closely with production teams to identify recurring issues and improve equipment reliability.
  • Assist with machine installations, upgrades, modifications and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Complete maintenance documentation accurately using the site's maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Ensure all maintenance work is completed in accordance with health and safety legislation, company procedures and engineering best practice.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and contribute ideas to improve plant efficiency and reduce recurring faults.
  • Support planned shutdowns and engineering projects as required.

Requirements
  • Recognised Electrical Engineering qualification such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC/HND or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working within a manufacturing, production, industrial or FMCG maintenance environment.
  • Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills on industrial machinery and automated equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Good understanding of control systems, motors, drives and industrial electrical installations.
  • Basic mechanical maintenance experience including bearings, belts, chains, gearboxes and pumps.
  • Experience fault finding on PLC-controlled equipment would be highly advantageous.
  • A proactive, safety-conscious approach with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a shift engineering team.
