The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer (Electrical Bias) to join a well-established engineering team based at a modern production facility in Oxford. This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically qualified engineer who enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where reliability, continuous improvement and teamwork are key.
Working as part of a close-knit engineering department, you will play a vital role in ensuring production equipment operates efficiently by carrying out planned preventative maintenance, responding to equipment breakdowns and supporting ongoing improvement projects. You'll have the opportunity to work on a variety of electrical and mechanical systems while contributing to the overall performance and reliability of the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across a wide range of production and manufacturing equipment.
- Respond promptly to reactive maintenance and equipment breakdowns, diagnosing faults and implementing effective repairs to minimise downtime.
- Fault find and repair electrical systems including motors, inverters, drives, sensors, contactors, relays, control panels and PLC-controlled machinery.
- Support mechanical maintenance activities including work on bearings, belts, gearboxes, pumps, conveyors and other production equipment.
- Work closely with production teams to identify recurring issues and improve equipment reliability.
- Assist with machine installations, upgrades, modifications and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Complete maintenance documentation accurately using the site's maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Ensure all maintenance work is completed in accordance with health and safety legislation, company procedures and engineering best practice.
- Participate in root cause analysis and contribute ideas to improve plant efficiency and reduce recurring faults.
- Support planned shutdowns and engineering projects as required.
Requirements
- Recognised Electrical Engineering qualification such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC/HND or equivalent.
- Previous experience working within a manufacturing, production, industrial or FMCG maintenance environment.
- Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills on industrial machinery and automated equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
- Good understanding of control systems, motors, drives and industrial electrical installations.
- Basic mechanical maintenance experience including bearings, belts, chains, gearboxes and pumps.
- Experience fault finding on PLC-controlled equipment would be highly advantageous.
- A proactive, safety-conscious approach with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a shift engineering team.
