ELECTRONIC INTEGRATED SYSTEMS MECHANIC with Security Clearance

Duties The primary purpose of this position is: to remove, install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, align, cali brate, and rebuild multi-system avionics complexes consisting of multiple completely integrated electronic avionics systems where the complex accomplishes a number of major functions. The worker in this career field must demonstrate the ability to perform maintenance on one or more complete electronic integrated systems associated with the assigned aircraft and/or maintenance on automatic flight contr ol systems, instrument systems, environmental systems, radar, communications, and navigation systems. Serves as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) providing training to assigned personnel in the accomplishment of tasks herein.

DUTIES: DUTY 1: Removes, installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, aligns, cali brates, and rebuilds multi-system avionics complexes consisting of multiple completely integrated electronic avionics systems where the complex accomplishes a number of major functions.

Systems are composed of a number of individual subsystems (i.e., radar, power contr ol, environmental, computers, gyro or inertia sensing units, launching contr ol units, etc.) which are linked together and interrelated so that their combined functions accomplish a specific objective and comprise a complete integrated system. DUTY 2: Performs pretest, operational (functional), or final testing of electronic systems, components, or subassemblies.

Troubleshoots operational malfunctions and analyzes system performance utilizing aircrew debrief data, Technical Orders, schematic and wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, data analysis, common and system-specific test equipment and built in system tests. DUTY 3: Advises engineering personnel on the operation and maintenance effects of proposed Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTO) and/or modifications on new or existing equipment.

Reviews and analyzes maintenance data; determines if criteria are sufficient to provide adequate test, troubleshooting and repair procedures; devises and recommends tests, procedural changes, or data corrections. DUTY 4: Utilizes safety practices and tool contr ol procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work area. Strictly adheres to safety procedures and regulations and promptly reports any observed or identified violations in accordance with established guidelines. Prepares/executes effective training plans to maximize training.

Complies with required instruction, guidance and/or training and provides instruction, guidance and training to others while maintaining personal qualifications. DUTY 5: Documents/recommends methods to improve equipment performance, technical data, and maintenance procedures by reporting hardware and software malfunctions, initiates material deficiency reports both on equipment and in technical data, and assists in design changes as necessary. May include aircrew debriefing to determine the nature of system malfunctions. Complies with security procedures, regulations and policies.

Member will be required to hold an appropriate security clearance and/or Secure Internet Protocol Router (SIPR) account to perform normal day-to-day duties. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 - Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is: the ability to do the work of an Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic without more than normal supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

• Knowledge of electronic theories and practices of one or more complex integrated systems such as fire contr ol, navigation, or automatic landing contr ol systems; of integrated electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, optical, fiber-optic, and mechanical systems; of such applications as radar, digital or analog computers, digital display devices, equipment cooling, and of the technology and practices which integrate these components into a total functional system; and of mathematics including algebra and trigonometric functions to adapt standard function to the specific requirements of the integrated systems. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures.
• Skill in the use of standard hand and power tools of the electronics trade. Skill in the set up and operation of computer contr olled automated test equipment (ATE) and test stands, oscilloscopes (dual trace, storage, digitized), spectrum, network and distortion analyzers, frequency counters, and signal generators; in interpreting complex drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete integrated systems to recognize the function and interconnections of components, assemblies, subassemblies, and connecting cable/fiber-optics harness; and in troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining electronic integrated systems where circuit theory must be used to understand the operation of a large number of circuits and functions, and the interaction of subsystems which create malfunctions. Skill in cali brating and adjusting components such as amplifiers, proximity boxes, generators, and voltage regulators.
• Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data such as schematic diagrams, blueprints and technical orders relating to the electronics trade. Ability to use a variety of electronic, electrical, or electromechanical test and measurement equipment. Ability to interpret and comply with regulations and instructions on security, safety, documentation, and other publications governing the performance of duties. Ability to effectively communicate with workers and supervisors in English using both oral and written reports. Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work.
• Comprehensive knowledge of testing and troubleshooting techniques and procedures utilizing a variety of test devices and ability to analyze, modify, and repair complex electrical or environmental systems and components on assigned aircraft. Comprehensive knowledge of operation, capabilities and limitations of complex electronic systems complicated by a variety of multi component assemblies and devices.
• Basic computer skills are required. Individual must be able to access and use computer-based maintenance documentation and supply systems and be capable of assimilating training on new systems as they are developed and implemented.
• Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data such as schematic diagrams, blueprints and technical orders relating to the electronics trade.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS

• Performs shift work with uncommon tours of duty.
• May be required to fly in military or contract aircraft for TDY maintenance or training, in accordance with the JTRs.
• May be required to support other units in performing maintenance.
• This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA). The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.
