Head of Finance - Sussex Pathology Network

Job overview
Band 8c Pathology Network Head of Finance – an exciting leadership role to support key projects within the developing Pathology network across East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust and partner Trusts.

Key responsibilities

Work closely with the SPN management team to provide comprehensive financial advice and support financial performance against the agreed plan, enabling the 10‑year finance model.

Prepare and deliver month‑end reports and reports against capital allocations, and lead business case development, financial and economic modelling.

Apply and interpret operating requirements in a growing competitive market, contributing to business planning and service development.

Travel across Network sites as needed to support programme delivery.

Evolve responsibilities in line with SPN implementation progress.

Qualifications

Full CCAB‑recognised qualification.

Continuing Professional Development to the level expected of a professional accountancy body.

Degree plus additional managerial qualification such as MBA.

Member of a professional registration body (e.g., CIMA).

Experience

Significant post‑qualification experience in a senior finance/management role (equivalent to Master's level), including directorate finance manager experience.

Experience communicating complex financial and performance information to non‑finance and senior audiences.

Experience building and maintaining relationships with senior managers across disciplines.

Desirable experience

Senior management experience within the NHS or a large, complex organisation.

Experience working in a commercial or business growth environment.

Skills

Strong decision‑making skills involving complex and sometimes conflicting information.

High IT literacy – financial systems, spreadsheets, databases.

Skilled in training non‑financial managers in finance‑related matters.

Ability to work autonomously while collaborating with management teams.

Understanding of how IT systems support planning and performance monitoring.

Additional desirable skills

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet strict deadlines.

Confidence to negotiate with senior managers in the Trust to ensure adherence to financial plans.
