Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Tech Lead to own the technical direction of the IBPM (Intelligent Business Process Management) workstream, part of a broader Finance AI Enablement programme. This role sits at the intersection of data engineering, analytics and applied AI, and is responsible for translating business ambition into a coherent, well-architected technical solution. You will lead a team of around five developers, set engineering standards, and act as the primary technical decision-maker for the workstream from the underlying data foundations through to the AI capabilities built on top of them.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own and define the end-to-end technical direction and architecture for the IBPM workstream, ensuring alignment with the wider Finance AI Enablement programme roadmap.
  • Lead, mentor and manage a team of approximately five developers, setting priorities, reviewing code/designs, and supporting their technical growth.
  • Design and oversee data foundations built on Microsoft Fabric, including data ingestion, modelling, transformation and governance for finance data domains.
  • Direct the design and delivery of reporting and analytics solutions in Power BI, ensuring performance, usability and a single source of truth for finance stakeholders.
  • Scope, evaluate and shape the roadmap for AI-enabled capabilities, with an initial focus on conversational AI (e.g. chat-based assistants over finance data and processes).
  • Translate business and finance stakeholder requirements into technical designs, solution options and delivery plans.
  • Establish engineering best practice: coding standards, CI/CD, environment management, testing strategy, and technical documentation across the workstream.
  • Act as the key technical point of contact with programme leadership, architects, and other workstream leads, escalating risks and dependencies as needed.
  • Evaluate emerging tools and approaches in the Microsoft AI/data ecosystem (Fabric, Power BI, Copilot/Azure AI services) and recommend adoption where relevant.
  • Own technical risk management, including data security, access control and responsible AI considerations for any AI solutions delivered.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience as a Tech Lead / Lead Engineer, with direct responsibility for technical direction and team leadership.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric (or equivalent modern data platform Azure Synapse, Databricks) for data engineering and data foundations.
  • Strong expertise in Power BI, including data modelling, DAX, and enterprise reporting best practice.
  • Experience scoping and/or delivering AI solutions, ideally including conversational AI / chatbot / LLM-based assistants.
  • Solid understanding of finance processes and data domains is highly desirable (e.g. FP&A, controlling, reporting).
  • Experience managing or leading a team of developers, including task allocation, code review and technical mentoring.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, comfortable working with both technical teams and senior finance/business stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of cloud architecture, data governance and security within the Microsoft ecosystem (Azure).
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical audiences.
