Operations Project Manager - Qualifications & Role Overview

Qualifications
  • Strong and proven experience in running large projects or programmes within a large organisation.
  • Previous experience leading a project/programme team through challenging and time-critical deadlines.
  • Thought leader with the ability to innovatively lead the project team to achieve go-live deadlines.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build strong relationships with team members, peers, stakeholders, and external delivery teams.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for delivering overviews and chairing working groups with the team and stakeholders.
  • A broad working knowledge of Global Markets, specifically:
    • Products: Markets products including Debt, Equity, FX, and MM.
    • Front Office: Trading environment.
    • Trade Lifecycle: Confirmations/affirmations, collateral, reconciliations (internal and external).
    • Post-Execution: Operations controls.
  • Champion knowledge-sharing and best practices within the team.
  • Undertake detailed analysis while remaining delivery-focused. Furthermore, the successful candidate needs to take ownership of all aspects of the projects through delivery and review.
  • Consider all aspects across the people, process, and technology dimensions to ensure that change is effectively delivered into the organisation.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills and considerable experience working with external vendors, along with the ability to manage sensitive relationships.
The Candidate Needs to Understand
  • Large-scale operations and operational change within a complex operating environment.
  • Front-to-back processes and the need for stakeholder engagement and management.
  • Operational risk requirements around generic Operations processes.
Role Overview
  • Leadership of operational aspects of the front-to-back project and responsibility for the agreed Operations scope and Operations milestone deliveries within the project.
  • Manage delivery of multiple tasks/milestones from inception to implementation for Operations; ensure timely and cost-effective delivery; actively manage project portfolio conflicts, schedule embargoes, issue management, and delivery risks.
  • Ensure the Operations plan is fully aligned with the global plan and that any dependencies and conflicts are appropriately managed and resolved.
  • Act as an escalation point within the project for Operations scope and be responsible for removing localised impediments with stakeholders and delivery teams.
  • Responsible for ensuring ongoing and consistent engagement and relationship management with stakeholders across the project, including Process Owners, Regional Heads, and Function Heads, as well as corresponding S&CD stakeholders and management.
  • Ensure all regional project and programme Milestones, Risks, Issues, Dependencies, and Change Requests are logged in Clarity and monitored accordingly to limit risk to deliverables.
  • Provide oversight of status reports produced for the project, ensuring timely and consistent updates are produced in line with reporting and governance cycles.
  • Ensure the Global client Change Framework (HCF) / S&CD framework and governance are consistently applied across the project for Operations, including working groups, reporting updates, Clarity updates, and related activities.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Management, execution, and delivery of initiatives within the project. This will include oversight and ownership of the end-to-end project lifecycle for Operations, including:
    • Delivery: Project delivery through all phases of the project lifecycle.
    • Stakeholder Management: Build strong relationships with global and regional stakeholders inside and outside of MSS Ops, ensuring that they are appropriately engaged.
    • Governance: Chair internal project working group meetings and represent MSS Ops at externally led working groups. Ensure adherence to the HCF / S&CD framework.
    • Project Documentation: Production and oversight of completed project-related documentation, including Project Plans, Solution Documents, and related materials.
    • RAID Management: Ensure that all risks, issues, assumptions, and dependencies are appropriately logged, managed, and escalated.
    • Communication: Ensure timely, accurate, and appropriate communication is delivered to relevant stakeholders.
    • Project Reporting: Ensure status reports are updated in a timely manner and in accordance with agreed standards.
    • Methodology: Ensure compliance with all HCF / S&CD team standards and processes, including the use of relevant tools and documents.
    • Planning: Produce and maintain project plans.
    • Timely escalation of any critical project-related issues to the Programme Manager and/or key stakeholders.
    • Ensure any project initiative is delivered in a controlled manner, with risks appropriately managed and adherence to HCF and S&CD team standards.
Major Challenges
  • Navigating the complexity of group-wide MSS Ops programmes and multiple application teams.
  • The size, scope, and complexity of S&CD projects and initiatives mean that they are fast-moving and dynamic, coupled with the requirement for a highly hands-on individual contribution.
  • Ability to manage multiple internal and external dependencies with competing priorities and deadlines that may impact milestones.
  • Deliver go-lives against challenging strategic and industry deadlines.
