ASAP Starts (August): Long term programmes

We are looking for three experienced Senior Service Designers to join multidisciplinary teams delivering complex public sector transformation work. All three roles require strong service design and human-centred design capability, experience working in multidisciplinary teams, and a sound understanding of Government Digital Service principles, the Service Standard and the government service delivery life cycle.

The precise focus, activities and expected outcomes will vary by workstream, but across all three positions, Senior Service Designers will be expected to:

  • Lead service design activities within a multidisciplinary delivery team.
  • Understand and map complex services across users, operations, policy, technology and data.
  • Work closely with User Researchers, Product Managers, Business Analysts, Delivery Managers, Architects, Engineers and subject matter experts.
  • Map current-state journeys, operational processes, hand-offs, pain points and dependencies.
  • Develop future-state journeys, service blueprints, workflows and service concepts where required.
  • Translate research and evidence into clear user needs, design opportunities and actionable recommendations.
  • Plan and facilitate workshops, co-design sessions, focus groups and stakeholder discussions.
  • Create clear visual and written artefacts that communicate complex service problems and opportunities.
  • Prototype and test service concepts at an appropriate level of fidelity.
  • Work iteratively, using evidence to challenge assumptions and reduce uncertainty.
  • Identify risks, constraints and dependencies affecting service feasibility and delivery.
  • Champion accessibility, inclusive design and user-centred ways of working.
  • Communicate confidently with senior stakeholders and support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing, handover and continuous improvement across the wider team.
