Location: Manchester
Working Pattern: Hybrid - 2 days per week onsite mandatory
Contract: 6 months
Rate: £430 INSIDE IR35

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Java Backend Microservices Engineer to join a critical project for a leading banking client.

The successful candidate will have strong hands-on development experience, excellent problem-solving skills and a proven background building and supporting Java-based microservices within enterprise environments.

Key Requirements

• 8-12 years' commercial Java development experience
• Banking or financial domain experience - 5+ years
• Strong hands-on Java 17+
• Spring/Spring Boot
• Strong Microservices development experience
• GitLab
• Kubernetes
• Oracle
• ActiveMQ
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Experience working within banking/financial services environments highly desirable
• Comfortable working in a hybrid environment with 2 days onsite in Manchester

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain high-quality Java Back End applications
• Design and build scalable microservices
• Work closely with technical and business teams to deliver critical banking solutions
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues
• Contribute to architecture, design and technical decision-making
• Develop and maintain automated deployment processes
• Work with Kubernetes and enterprise infrastructure
• Ensure code quality, performance, security and maintainability

This is a hands-on coding role, so candidates must have strong recent Java development experience.
