Job Description
The Apple Card & Savings team is building the financial products that put users in control of their money - at a scale that demands both technical excellence and thoughtful leadership. We built Apple Card to reinvent how credit cards work and continue to launch groundbreaking features. As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of talented engineers delivering the backend systems that power Apple Card and Apple Savings, helping shape how millions of people experience financial services every day. This is a rare opportunity to drive meaningful impact at the intersection of consumer technology and financial infrastructure.
Description
You will manage a team of engineers building and scaling the distributed systems that underpin Apple Card and Apple Savings - spanning Java and Kotlin services, infrastructure, relational and NoSQL datastores, and high-throughput messaging pipelines. Day-to-day, you will balance hands-on technical leadership with cross-functional collaboration, ensuring the team delivers high-quality software that meets the performance and reliability bar Apple's customers expect. You will partner closely with product, design, and partner engineering teams to define roadmaps, resolve ambiguity, and grow your engineers.
Minimum Qualifications
10+ years of software engineering experience building and operating large-scale distributed backend systems environment.
Proven experience managing and growing a team of software engineers in a fast-paced product.
Deep expertise in Java or Kotlin, with hands-on experience designing services for scale and performance.
Strong background in cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and API design.
Experience with relational and NoSQL databases and high-throughput messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, SQS, or equivalent).
Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders.
Track record of delivering high-quality software on time in ambiguous, rapidly evolving environments.
Exceptional communication skills - able to convey technical complexity clearly to both engineering teams, partners and executive stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with financial services, payments, or fintech domains, including regulatory and compliance considerations.
Hands-on experience with performance engineering, capacity planning, and large-scale system reliability practices.
Proficiency in modern CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud-native deployment patterns.
Skilled in defining and tracking engineering health metrics - latency, throughput, error rates, and on-call burden.
Experience working in organizations with high data-privacy and security requirements.
Background building consumer-facing financial or commerce products at scale.
