Job Description
An established engineering and manufacturing business is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Product Development team. This is an opportunity to play a key role in the design and development of complex, high-precision products, taking ownership of projects from initial concept through to production.Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll be responsible for delivering innovative mechanical design solutions while ensuring products are robust, manufacturable and ready for successful introduction into production.
The Role
You'll be involved throughout the full product development lifecycle, taking responsibility for the design, development and validation of mechanical systems and assemblies. The role offers a varied mix of design work, supplier collaboration and cross-functional project involvement.
Key responsibilities include:Designing mechanical and electro-mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)Producing detailed engineering drawings, specifications and manufacturing documentationDesigning for manufacture, assembly, reliability and serviceabilitySupporting thermal management and mechanical performance through analysis and simulationWorking closely with suppliers on component design, manufacturing and technical complianceSupporting the introduction of new products into manufacturingCollaborating with engineering, production and other departments to deliver successful new product launchesManaging multiple design activities while meeting project timescales
About You
You'll have several years' experience designing complex engineered products within a high-technology manufacturing environment. You will enjoy solving technical challenges and working collaboratively to develop innovative engineering solutions.
You'll ideally have experience with:SolidWorks or a similar 3D CAD packageMechanical design of complex products and assembliesDesign for manufacture, assembly and reliabilityMaterial selection and tolerance definition for machined and sheet metal componentsThermal management and heat transfer within engineered productsWorking with external suppliers throughout the design processProducing detailed engineering documentation
Experience in any of the following would also be beneficial:Electro-mechanical design including PCB, connector and cable integrationFEA and CFD analysisSmall-scale project managementFibre optic, laser or other precision engineering productsProduct data or document management systems
What We're Looking For
Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience through an engineering apprenticeshipStrong communication and team-working skillsA practical, hands-on approach to engineering and problem solvingSelf-motivated with excellent attention to detailComfortable working in a fast-paced product development environmentAble to manage changing priorities while maintaining high engineering standards
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer looking to work on technically challenging products within a collaborative engineering environment, where you'll have genuine influence over the development of new technologies from concept through to manufacture.
