Job description
Construction Manager
Location: Project-Based (Wisconsin, Missouri, Wyoming, Texas, and future project locations)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Work Environment: Primarily Site-Based (Long-Term Project Assignments)
Lead the Development of World-Class Mission-Critical Infrastructure
The successful delivery of hyperscale data centers begins long before the first structural steel is erected. It starts with transforming greenfield sites into fully developed mission-critical campuses through large-scale earthwork, utility installation, infrastructure development, logistics planning, and operational execution.
Construction Managers play a critical role in leading these efforts, coordinating personnel, equipment, subcontractors, and resources across some of North America's largest and most complex infrastructure projects. This position is responsible for driving safe, efficient, and productive field operations while ensuring projects remain aligned with schedule, budget, quality, and customer expectations.
About Michels Infrastructure Solutions
Michels Infrastructure Solutions (MIS) brings together the full capabilities of the Michels Family of Companies under a Super General Contractor (Super GC) model, providing mission-critical owners and developers with a single point of accountability for every phase of project execution. By combining self-performed specialty design, construction, and commissioning services, MIS delivers large-scale, multidisciplinary projects with greater control over safety, quality, schedule, and cost.
MIS specializes in the delivery of hyperscale data centers and mission-critical facilities, leveraging expertise across mass grading and site development, wet and dry utilities, fiber and telecommunications infrastructure, ground improvement, deep foundations, structural concrete, power infrastructure, and commissioning. Our integrated delivery approach enables customers to partner with a single-source team capable of executing some of North America's most complex and demanding infrastructure projects.
Position Overview
As a Construction Manager, you will lead field execution activities supporting some of North America's largest hyperscale data center and mission-critical infrastructure developments. During the early phases of project delivery, your primary focus will be on large-scale site development and infrastructure construction, including land clearing, mass earthwork, grading, retention systems, utility installation, access roads, logistics planning, temporary facilities, and power infrastructure readiness.
You will provide leadership to Superintendents, General Foremen, Foremen, subcontractors, and craft personnel responsible for transforming greenfield sites into fully developed mission-critical campuses capable of supporting large-scale vertical construction and commissioning activities.
This role serves as the operational bridge between project management and field execution, coordinating workforce planning, equipment utilization, material procurement, subcontractor performance, utility coordination, and construction sequencing across multiple disciplines. Success requires the ability to manage complex site-development operations while maintaining alignment with project schedules, customer expectations, and long-term campus development objectives.
Construction Managers are expected to spend the majority of their time in the field, leading operations directly from active project sites and working closely with field leadership, craft personnel, subcontractors, utility providers, and customers.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in heavy civil construction, site development, utility infrastructure, industrial construction, power infrastructure, or large-scale EPC projects and understands how early infrastructure decisions impact the success of downstream construction and commissioning efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead field construction activities during the initial development of large-scale hyperscale and mission-critical campus projects.
- Direct land clearing, grubbing, mass grading, cut/fill operations, building pad development, retention systems, haul roads, and temporary infrastructure construction.
- Oversee installation of wet utility systems including storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water distribution, fire water loops, and associated infrastructure.
- Direct construction and coordination of dry utility systems including electrical ductbanks, telecommunications infrastructure, fiber pathways, and underground utility corridors.
- Coordinate activities between civil contractors, utility providers, power infrastructure teams, specialty subcontractors, and vertical construction groups.
- Manage workforce planning, equipment utilization, production targets, and resource allocation across multiple concurrent work fronts.
- Ensure utility, grading, drainage, and infrastructure installations are sequenced to support future building construction and commissioning requirements.
- Maintain strict compliance with safety standards, quality requirements, company procedures, and customer expectations.
- Monitor project progress, productivity, budget performance, and operational metrics while supporting profitability objectives.
- Support project teams in achieving schedule milestones across complex, fast-paced construction environments.
What You'll Do
- Lead daily operations across major site-development and infrastructure packages supporting hyperscale campus construction.
- Manage field execution of land clearing, erosion control, mass excavation, imported fill placement, grading operations, retention pond construction, and site stabilization efforts.
- Coordinate installation of storm sewer, sanitary sewer, domestic water, fire water, electrical ductbanks, fiber infrastructure, telecommunications systems, and utility crossings.
- Support development and maintenance of construction logistics plans, access roads, trailer compounds, laydown yards, staging areas, and temporary facilities.
- Ensure utility corridors, site access routes, and infrastructure systems are constructed in a manner that supports future vertical construction and commissioning activities.
- Partner with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Project Controls personnel, Utility Managers, Logistics Managers, Operations Managers, and field leadership to ensure successful project execution.
- Coordinate large fleets of heavy equipment, earthmoving operations, utility crews, subcontractors, and self-perform construction resources.
- Assist project teams with utility conflicts, constructability reviews, site-development phasing plans, permitting considerations, and operational planning.
- Review production schedules, grading quantities, utility installation progress, labor productivity, and project performance metrics.
- Implement corrective actions when schedule, productivity, quality, safety, resource, or logistics challenges arise.
- Coordinate subcontractor activities and ensure contractual obligations, quality standards, and schedule commitments are achieved.
- Support material management, equipment planning, procurement coordination, and resource deployment efforts.
- Support energization planning, utility turnover milestones, commissioning readiness activities, and overall campus development objectives.
- Conduct field reviews, workforce planning meetings, safety observations, operational performance evaluations, and coordination meetings.
- Lead jobsite coordination meetings focused on site development, utility installation, infrastructure readiness, logistics planning, and operational execution.
- Promote continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing safety, productivity, quality, and operational consistency.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Provide direct leadership and mentorship to Superintendents, General Foremen, Foremen, and field personnel.
- Conduct on-the-job training and workforce development activities.
- Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and operational planning sessions.
- Hold team members accountable for safety performance, quality standards, productivity, and professional development.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, communication, and operational excellence.
- Support succession planning and leadership development efforts within field operations.
