Site Reliability Lead Engineer
Quick Overview
Job Description
Create your best future and join Westpac as a Site Reliability Lead Engineer.
What's the role? This role sits within the Customer Platform unit, which owns a critical enterprise platform delivering customer data capabilities across onboarding, servicing, and product origination through both staff-facing and digital channels. Ensuring high availability, strong performance, and resilience at scale is essential to enabling seamless and reliable customer experiences.
This is not a traditional SRE leadership role. It is a hands on engineering position with a strong focus on AI driven performance testing and intelligent automation at a platform level. The role is centred on building automation first capabilities, reducing manual effort, and driving predictive reliability through modern tooling and AI adoption.
Responsibilities- Design and implement AI-driven performance testing and automation frameworks to validate scalability, resilience, and system reliability.
- Embed shift-left, automation-first testing practices into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous, low-touch validation.
- Use AI and advanced tools to generate test scenarios, analyse performance trends, and identify bottlenecks early.
- Define, monitor, and maintain SLIs, SLOs, and performance baselines to ensure consistent reliability outcomes.
- Establish intelligent observability and AIOps practices, including proactive monitoring and self healing capabilities to improve issue detection and resolution.
- Strong experience in performance testing tools (e.g. JMeter, Gatling, k6, LoadRunner).
- Proven expertise in automation frameworks and scripting (Python, Java, or similar).
- Hands on experience with CI/CD, DevOps, and infrastructure automation.
- Solid understanding of SRE principles, including SLIs, SLOs, and reliability engineering practices.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools (e.g. Splunk, Elastic Observability).
- Exposure to AI-enabled testing, AIOps, or intelligent automation tools.
- Experience in banking or regulated environments, exposure to enterprise platforms (Oracle/Siebel), knowledge of resilience practices, and an interest in AI adoption would be considered advantageous.
We're obsessed with becoming our customers' banking partner for life and we're looking for people who are passionate about helping us achieve that goal. In return, we're committed to making Westpac the best place to work in the country.
Here are just a few of the ways we're already doing that:
- Special offers on banking products and discounts from top brands, including generous employee-only mortgage rates!
- Flexible work arrangements to help you achieve a greater work/life balance, and a variety of leave options including Culture, Lifestyle and Wellbeing leave.
- Tailored learning and development opportunities to help your grow your career within the bank.
- Lots of opportunities to 'give back' to the Community by getting involved in our many volunteering initiatives.
We're all about creating a supportive and inclusive community. We welcome everyone - no matter your age, gender, background, or abilities. We also provide additional support to welcome our veterans, Indigenous Australians and neurodiverse community.
- Hybrid.
