Job Description

Financial Controller £76,000 - £92,906 + Benefits Aberdeen Hybrid Working

For a new publicly owned energy company set up by the UK Government and backed by a capitalisation of £8.3 billion, we are recruiting a Financial Controller. Initially part of the Civil Service, this role will be transferred over once the organisation has been fully structured and will be key in the development and implementation of financial policies, procedures, internal controls, accounting and investment policies and continuous improvement thereafter. BAU will include leading the audit, month-end, year-end, cash management and investments analysis and manages a team of two.

Main Duties:

  • Lead the development and implementation of financial policies, procedures, and internal controls aligned with HM Treasury, FreM, and MPM requirements
  • Lead and deliver the Annual Report and Accounts as well as the financial statements, and audit, acting as key contact for the external auditors
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, ensuring all transactions and investments are in line with IFRS/FreM
  • Lead and improve month-end and year-end close processes
  • Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and oversee treasury and cash management including forecasting funding requirements, and recording of cash movements
  • Oversee VAT and Corporation Tax, including a review of VAT arrangements once structured
  • Provide analysis on non-current assets, investments and working capital
  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of two staff

Person Specification:

  • CCAB qualified with experience across complex public sector, ALB or central Government organisations, government financial frameworks and processes such as Managing Public Money and HM Treasury guidance.
  • Experience of investment / funding models if experience is from the private sector
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting and accounting standards (IRFS / FReM)
  • Audit leadership and experience of preparing annual reports
  • Continuous improvement of financial controls
  • Leadership of month-end processes and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Experience managing a small finance team
